Insomnia anyone?!

Hey Dads,

I have developed insomnia a couple of months post having a child. I am sorting out a few "demons" in counselling and have come to accept that I've had a touch of the male postnatal depression.

I just wondered, does anyone else have sleep problems and, do you think it needs to be medicated OR is this now just a "new normal" and now that I'm a Dad, I'll just have a totally different sleep pattern? I could probably come to terms with that eventually!

P.s. the DR prescribed SSRI Sertralline for anxiety/sleep. Since counselling, the anxiety has gone wayyy down, and I don't want to start a course of SSRIs if I don't have to.

Id say now, I probably wake every couple of hours for 20-30 mins.

Hey man
since being a new dad, im having these sleep problems too.
I should sleep in between the periods the baby sleeps, but i just can’t. Im literally wide awake. I think it’s because we’re so busy in our heads taking care of wife and baby, we struggle to go back into our body. I think with meditation and really try to connect into ur body, even if its an hour, youll go a long way.
BUT realistically, this is part of being a parent. Our kid needs us to be focused constantly, but for us to do that we should take good care of ourselves and rest.
anyway, goodluck man! U got it

I appreciate that man thanks - I was thinking the same thing, but just myself into a panic. I am working on getting in to that mentality and am finding things easier.

Definitely don't want medication if this is just my new "dad bod/mind" ha!
