School runs

My son's mother has had a breakdown so my son is living with me full time at the moment. The problem is, he's at school in a different borough of London; about an hour's drive away from where I live. I'm taking him there and picking him up but because of this, I can't work. I am freelance and often have to work outside London for several days at a time. My wife works and doesn't drive and I don't have anyone to take or pick him up. There's no school bus as it's a private school (he's on a scholarship). I can't afford to send him in taxis every day and he's too young to travel by himself. I've missed so much work and I can't live on fresh air. Is anyone else in this situation? Does anyone have any suggestions?

Breakfast and after school club ? Working during the hours you don’t have him ?

Employ a morning and afternoon babysitter to do the school runs. There are professional agencies that offer this (so everyone is DBS checked etc). I think Koro Kids is one such agency.

Does anyone else in his class/year live close enough to you to car-share? Probably unlikely if you're an hour away, but worth looking into? Could he sometimes stay over with a schoolfriend if you return the favour at weekends or when your work commitments allow?
