Is it normal for 12 years old's to fall out with friends?

I have just taken my 12 year old son on a 3 day holiday with his best friend who is the same age. They were fine the first day, but on the second and third day my son kept on falling out with his friend. They had stayed up late and not got much sleep on the first night which may have contributed to it. Is it normal for 12 year old's to fall out with their friends?

Incredibly normal. Especially when tiredness enters the equation.
