Things I don't understand on here

Even after over a year, I still don't fully understand, or want to, the discussions on the following, and therefore avoid them like the plague. In fact, I think most of them scare me a little.

The Fly Lady. (WTF?)
Cleaner debates.
Mooncups.
"What's for dinner?"
Buying and selling.
Quinny Buzzes. (I used to think it was some sort of drink until I googled it.)

Any more?

No, I didn't know that, expat. But I don't read celebrity magazines.

I just watch the films.

expatinscotland · 28/01/2008 00:27

honestly, can you honestly when you see her forget that she's Julia?

no, because she's not talented enough for that.

say kristin scott thomas the other day in 'tell no one' and thought she was isabella hupert.

that's how good she was.

there's the difference.

expatinscotland · 28/01/2008 00:29

nor do i, des.

that's common just common knowledge.

i don't think she's beautiful or talented, because there are so many out there who are so much more, and my sister saw her on Broadway and it was cancelled soon after premiere because the gal can't act on stage.

look on imdb.com.

Patrick was the understudy for the role.

The original candidate for the role couldn't master dancing, so they drafted in Patrick, whose mother ran a ballet school.

But I've seen him perform, with Houston Ballet, and the man can dance.

expatinscotland · 28/01/2008 00:35

His mom ran a school called Banberry in Houston.

One of the three daughters of my friend studied there.

She's a principal for a group called Joffrey Ballet now, a touring company.

expatinscotland · 28/01/2008 00:37

sorry, it's my mom's friend, Gloria.

her daugther Gina danced there.

expatinscotland · 28/01/2008 00:41

Gawd, but he can dance!

I remember when 'Dirty Dancing' came out, and my sister and I were watching it to no end.

My dad saw it and said, 'Oh, that guy, he's a ballerina.'

We said, 'How would you know?'

He said, 'Because I saw him. Your mother dragged me to some ballet with him in it. About a guy obsessed with bamboo. He dreamed bamboo. He loved bamboo. He danced with bamboo. Yep, that was him.' and you should hear my dad, because his speech in English sounds a bit stilted, like an Indian or someone who didn't speak English first.

So, of course, we double-checked with Mom.

Yep, Patrick was dancing with the Houston Ballet then.

That Fly Lady thing. Utter crap.

I read the first bit about cleaning your kitchen sink. Okay I do that bit. But then I got about fifty emails a day telling me to clean the bathroom. The wife still does that room now.

Nope what happened was I got a Jamie Oliver book from my naked sister in law (Call her that because she took everything off on my lawn to change into her bikini to get into our blow up pool once) and it got me into cookery in a big way. So yes I clean the kitchen like mad - the work benches are like surgery operating tables and the fridge is cleaned also often - but the rest of the cleaning? Bugger that.

madamez · 09/02/2008 00:30

FLylady is for mentalists. I actually have a real deep ethical problem with the idea that women must clean, it's their destiny - it's annoying me even more at the moment as I have been having to do more housework than usual because of the farking four-footed invaders.

Jeremyll33 · 09/02/2008 00:52

The global capital of cleaning has to be Germany where I live. Everyone who first comes here seems to love how clean the city of Munich is. But when they live here full time and realise how much bloody time is spent here cleaning they'd think twice.

Mooncups are silicone cups that you use instead of tampax, has the same principle. You empty into the loo and put it back. Stops tampons etc being flushed into the water system or put in landfill. I can't help with the rest.

no worse than washable nappies

TTC is 'trying to conceive'

Habbibu · 11/02/2008 14:22

Not really weirder than tampons, tbh, MF. Though I did think the same, then thought a bit more, then got one, and am totally converted.

TTC - trying to conceive

Not offended at all, MF, just really interested. I think my sister would be the same, but I just don't find it at all disgusting - empty in loo - quick rinse, back in. Comfortable and feels very clean. Each to their own, I suppose.
