Help in the trouser department

In the hope that the potential double-entendre will suck you in... A plea for help from Mr Hab. He's 6ft 3, slim built, and is finding it increasingly hard to get trousers/jeans to fit. He's 34in waist, and needs a 35/36 inch leg, but the longest most shops seem to go to is 34. He really shouldn't need to go to High and Mighty, and surely 6ft 3 is not that unusually tall. He used to be able to get designers at Debenhams trousers, but they all seem too short these days. We're pretty sure he hasn't had a growth spurt... Any tips gratefully received.

I had a hunt on line for a similar reason and found loads of places that do trousers in allsorts of combinations. Just punch in 'Big Men clothes'.

Walnutshell · 13/01/2008 18:32

I really want to help Mr Hab but as we are both on the short side - 6' 3" sounds giantific - so I'm afraid uselessness all round...

Still, it bumps it for you.

(Has he been standing in compost?)

feLiCiTYshAgwell · 13/01/2008 18:34

.....double entendre drew me in habbibu

but can't help as dh is snoring on sofa and is unresponsive.

Plus he is short and fat
and wears his trousers under his belly.

Good luck

Walnutshell · 13/01/2008 18:35

(That's what got me here too Felicity! Like your description of dh, he sounds haaaandsome!)

bumping for mr hab

Walnutshell · 13/01/2008 18:39

(Are you tempted to lodge anything in said orifice?)

Sorry, hab. Hoping for tall folk for you.

dancerandprancer · 13/01/2008 18:39

My DH has similar problems. Also 6 ft 3. He can often find jeans that seem long enough from M&S who now do a range for tallmen. Also a good web site called Walk Tall. They specialise in big shoes but now branching out into clothers. My DH also has a mare finding shoes. (size 13/14)

Habbibu · 13/01/2008 19:20

Thanks all - and yes, Mr Hab is very foxy. The archetypal tall, dark and handsome. .

It's a pain, as he used to be able to get loads of trousers from designers at Debenhams, so nice Jasper Conran & John Rocha jeans, etc, but for some reason they don't seem to fit any more. He has sent an email to Debenhams to that effect.

Apparently the average height for men is 5'9, so Mr Hab is 6 inches taller than av. If the maths works this way, and your leg length is half your body length, then he's 3 inches longer than the average at 36 in leg. That would make the average leg 33 in. So how is "long" 34? This can't be right, so if anyone can correct these calculations, I'd be grateful.

Walnutshell · 13/01/2008 19:24

Is leg length half body length then?

bumping for tall men

cupcake78 · 14/01/2008 10:02

My hubby is very tall and needs very long trousers. He is also 34 waist and 34-35 inside leg.

Gap, Next, Burtons and Republic tend to have some choice but it is generally limited. I have even found some long 34" leg trousers in Primark of all places but yes it is difficult. Have been know to buy trousers and let the bottom of the leg down which has worked well in the past as long as there is a fairly large hem.

They are out there you need to look and try on!! of poss

Habbibu · 14/01/2008 10:44

Ooh - never thought to check hems! Cupcake - that's a cunning plan. Cheers.

Thanks for all the bumping, everyone. Most kind.

Marks and Spencers are crap for long legs: tir idea of 35" is pretty stingy, and you're damn lucky to find anything more than 33".

So the answer is ... Land's End. Most of their stuff comes hemmed up to 36" (and that's 36 real inches) or unfinished, which gives at least an inch more and sometimes three.

EachPeachPearMum · 15/01/2008 00:25

Dh is 6'2", 32 " waist- he usually uses gap, m&s and next, though he has a long back, so legs are not fiendishly long...
M&S do shirts that are longer in the arm and back though...

BarcodeZebra · 17/01/2008 22:55

I'm 6'5". I get my jeans from Gap. Diesel used to be good too. But then I had kids and moved out of that price bracket for ever....

mrspink27 · 17/01/2008 22:57

boden?

WendyWeber · 17/01/2008 22:59

Women's trousers seem to come up longer than men's these days - what's that about, eh? eh?

Have a look in Long Tall Sally - they go up to about 37" in some styles.

NB I am kidding. But it's stupid, isn't it?

CarGirl · 17/01/2008 23:00

I think the problem is that your dh has long legs for his height! My dh is 6'3" and I've just measured his inside leg on his jeans and they are only a 33" (when stretched) so regular shops long leg fit him fine.

WendyWeber · 17/01/2008 23:03

Dickies - of course!

WendyWeber · 17/01/2008 23:08

and ebay of course! You can find anything on ebay

38" leg here at biga - love that flicked up leg in the pic

Habbibu · 22/01/2008 22:45

Many thanks, all. I think he's also just vexed that shops seem to think he's freakishly tall. Maybe if they just made trousers with longer hems it would be ok, but that's tough with jeans. Bah. Anyway, you've all been most helpful.
