Bigoted, interfering Mother-in-Law

Mother-in-Law is Russian, and so there are several areas of cultural difference. However this takes the biscuit.

Baby's name is Leo - Lev in Russian. Lev Tolstoy, Lev Myshkin, pretty well known. However, we've been getting messages from MiL's friends asking us how LEONARD is. Strange, but perhaps they just got the name wrong, oh well.

No. Turns out MiL thinks that Leo is a Jewish name, so has been telling everyone his name is Leonard.

I veer between anger at the bigotry and anger at the interference.

Am I being unreasonable?

NO NO NO you are not being unreasonable.
My sister called her baby Tom - just Tom and people keep calling him Thomas! Or commenting on how is name should be Thomas.

My baby's name is Leo so it is a very fine name as it is. Like a lion.

Bloody inlaws should be outlawed!!

Tell her that unless she switches to Leo pretty damn quick you'll rename him Moshe Avram.

Well done Ubergeekian. Your nickname sounds Armenian, btw.
