This won't be to everyones taste at all - but there might be a small market for it, so i will give it a go and see since i eat, sleep and consume dance music for a living.

I will stick in here some of my fave artists/albums/tracks out at the moment together with a wee link to a snippet.

An antidote to all the pop shite that everyone seems to be chatting about.

Please do.
I can't stand the manufactured shite that seems to rule the charts these days.

SquonkaClaus · 11/12/2007 18:20

ooh good, will there be anything from 1973?

SquonkaClaus · 11/12/2007 18:20

(tis a good idea, btw, well done)

OverMyDeadStuffedTurkey · 11/12/2007 18:21

hey Eric, I'd be very interested, so please do!

EricScrooge · 11/12/2007 18:23

First up is Fabrics latest live mix by Caspa and Rusko - an irresistable blend of jump-up party dubstep rubbing shoulders along with some dark bass-heavy monsters.

Loads of ragga influences and a sure fire hit over Xmas for the discerning clubber.

Includes classics like 'Cockney Thug' alongside some fresh tracks.

clip

Also check out Dubfire's latest remix of Plastikmans 'Spastik' - he doesn't stray too far from the classic original but updates it woth a pounding kick drum and extra percs to bring it slam up to date. Perfect early hours stomper to compliment his summer smash 'Roadkill'

No clip for that yet as it is still quite new.

EricScrooge · 11/12/2007 18:25

A lot of it will sound like noise to most of you though don't forget.

It will all be dance orientated underground stuff im afraid.

Might get no interest at all - but i have to try!

OP posts:
PersonalChristmasElf · 11/12/2007 18:27

I'm a rock chick by preference so I'm constantly told it's all noise!!
Don't mind a bit of anything else though. I try not to restrict myself.

EricScrooge · 11/12/2007 18:29

Well - if you don't like electrnic dancey stuff then there is no point listening really as it will just mean nothing.

I'm a techno/tech-house/progressive/minimal fan mainly.

OP posts:
PersonalChristmasElf · 11/12/2007 18:33

I don't mind it. I'll listen to virtually anything. I'm just a big Rock chick. Have Whiskey in the Jar by Metallica going atm!

PersonalChristmasElf · 11/12/2007 18:35

Not a bad tune. Got my head bobbing.

EricScrooge · 11/12/2007 19:10

Sorry - just realised that clip of 'Cockney Thug' has a sweary word in it.

Here is a cleaner clip.

I chose the Thug tracks cos it is a bit of a classic as it is the only non d'n'b track to be played in the three separate rooms by three different DJ's at Fabric at a d'n'b night, and the Arctic Monkeys play it before their gigs cos they like it so much. It has a sample of some Ray Winstone type cockney posturing in it you see. Very funny when you hear it live.

Dubstep is mainly a London phenomenon at the moment - but it is spreading. It is admired by fans of genres as diverses as techno, d'n'b and breaks - which is a rarity nowadays. Even heard an dustep set before an Underworld concert recently so it is catching on.

It will get bastardised by the pop world no doubt with some dubstep inspired attrocities winging their way into the charst next year i dread to admit.

"A lot of it will sound like noise to most of you though don't forget."

Patronising git. I'm, like, well sick innit blood.

EricScrooge · 12/12/2007 09:43

Ok - maybe that does sound patronising - i didn't mean it to.

I was just trying to let people know that if they only liked 70's stuff or power ballads that they probably won't like any of it.

S'up Homey?

Word.

(We sound like embarrassing dads now - i'll get my coat.......)

I know it won't be to everyones tastes - but i have to try.

It's what i do all day and is my vocation, so there may be a few on here who might be into it.

I shall wait and see.

Just kidding Eric. In fact I think all Dadsnetters should have their own threads to reflect their particular areas of interest and expertise (a la cod's moisturiser threads).

Coming soon: "DaDaDa's Tea and Biscuit Odyssey."

dressedupnowheretogotilxmas · 12/12/2007 13:35

loving eric choon

BigGitHoHoHoDad · 12/12/2007 13:59

Actually Eric you might be able to help me, what is the dancetrack that uses as a backing track the music 'Adagio For Strings' from the film Platoon?
My sister got married a couple of years ago and the DJ played it in the background at the reception. (At the time I thought what a strange choice of music given the occasion and what the movie was about!)
I ask as I would like to hear it again and will probably put in on my Ipod.
Lastly is there still an issue with downloads on itunes and the quality of the music? Your thoughts?

EricScrooge · 12/12/2007 14:56

The original 'Adagio For Strings' was written by Samuel Barber which would be the one in the Platoon Film.

An ambient electronic version was done by William Orbit appearing on his 'Pieces In A Modern Style' album, which was then remixed as a dance track by a DJ/Producer called ATB and released as a 12".

A few years after that - that-fuckface-wannabe-messiah-suck-ma-boaby-arse-bandit Tiesto did a remix of the remix of the remix and everyone said he was a genius.

Don't mention you like him or i will take out a contract on you.

Hope that helps!

EricScrooge · 12/12/2007 14:59

What issue with i-tunes?

I don't use it myself. I get sent music or download it from specialist dance sites.

Are you downloading a high quality 320kbps version of the tracks?

OP posts:
EricScrooge · 12/12/2007 15:05

Sorry - wasn't ATB, was Ferry Corsten did the original dance remix. Not that familiar with trance you see.

This is Tiestos later version.

OP posts:
BigGitHoHoHoDad · 12/12/2007 15:15

Thanks Eric. I only mentioned the Itunes stuff as I read a while back that the quality of the downloads were poor, however Itunes were meant to have upgraded their tracks. As for the 320kbps version I could not tell you as I do not seem to be given a choice when I download.

aDadTidingsWeBring · 12/12/2007 15:19

oo nice feature idea eric.

dance music has revived a bit in the last few years i feel after getting decidedly boring for a while.

I'll be checking out your tunes...

and tiesto is indeed a rip-off merchant overrated tosser.

EricScrooge · 12/12/2007 15:33

I like the cut of your gib aDad.

It has always been very vibrant though. It is a bit of an 'Urban Myth' that it got shit for a while.

What happened at the start of the 00's was the progressive house bubble burst as the tracks were getting too far up their own arses - too many beatless breakdowns, grand statements and over-production. The techno scene was still too hard for most and the house scene wasn't really innovative enough.

What has made everyone more excited now is the middle ground between the two. Techno has become more melodic and musical, and some sections of house have become deeper and more technical.

Minimal has become a little meatier and doesn't have acres of space and pigeon farts like it used to have a couple of years ago, and has influenced the current trend of 'less is more' in all the underground DJ's boxes.

We have taken it back to basics and realised that what is most important is the groove of the song locked away in the simple interplay of percussion and basic melodic hooks. Not some over-egged production tricks and grand sweeping ethereal chord sweeps and girls singing about love.

You can tell that i write this shit all day can't you?

I'll be quiet for a bit now and calm down....

breathe........in.....out......and relax.
