Storing made up formula

Hi all,

Can you make up powder formula and keep in the fridge for a day and use when required? It says on the packet (Cow and Gate first infant) to use immediately but a lady I bumped into in the Supermarket said she makes up 3/4 bottles each evening and uses the next day. I suspect the manufacturers guidance is always on the side of caution as there might me a very small chance of bacteria developing if your fridge is not very cold!

If the answer is yes it is safe to store for 24hrs is it also safe to heat it slightly in a bowl of warm water when using it?

Thanks

You can store for no more than 24 hours in the back of the fridge, not the door.
You can heat it in a bowl of hot water, never in the microwave.
Best practice is to make up as you need.

This is what we used to do, youngest is 10, but it was against guidelines then too. I used to take bottles out for the day is a very cold cool bag that kept 2 bottle fridge cold for 8 hours (and it really did, I still use it for packed lunches now) - Google “koodi cooler bag”.

Perfect Prep machines have since gone along to make up bottles “instantly” as required. We didn’t have one, i’m sure plenty of people will be along to tell you about their experiences with them.

I used to sterilise bottles, fill with boiled water & then add powder when we needed it. Both mine were fine (this is 12/13 years ago). But I believe guidance now is to add powder to boiling water. I had a plastic tub with sections manufactured for this purpose.

I only ever gave mine room temperature milk.

As long as you flash cool them quickly in a sink of ice cold water and store at the back of the fridge immediately. I think WHO actually recommends this as a second option to making up fresh

Our daughter has Cow and Gate. Its 1 scoop per oz of water.

She drinks 7oz so so we make 7 scoops with 5oz of water as the instructions say to do so. Cool it, pop it in the fridge. When she wants it, we add the remaining 2oz of boiling water and its ready to drink Smile
