Father Son Activity wants me to join in

So my other half wants to do some activity at the weekend with our 9 year old son, but wants me to do it too. He wants to play cards, play chess etc but is requesting that I am there too to watch etc. I just want him to either have done father/son time alone together or not at all. We do plenty as a family and am a bit annoys that he feels I need to be there whilst he does something with our son. And the other issue is that our don doesn’t even want to play cards , play chess. My other half is only suggest it as he feels he needs to engage with him at the weekends. Am I being unreasonable?
