it's dh's birthday soon and I want to get him a leather messenger bag, maybe a little retro in style.. something big enough to get an A4 pad into, and with a long strap that can be worn across the body
Anyone have one & can tell me where I can get one?

try tk max they have fab ones there

Niecie · 16/10/2007 18:17

You could try John Lewis's website. They do messenger style bags of various prices.

Accessorize, would you believe. We bought one just as you describe in slightly battered brown leather which we used as a changing bag. Got it for £20 in the Sale (was £45 before sale) looked like this but without the decorated straps! and cheaper of course

Bought lovely one from John Rocha at Debenhams last year. Saw some also in White Stuff today, but didn't look too closely.

I like the accessorize one, but not so much the decorative straps..
And thanks for the John Lewis tip - no bags there for me on this occasion but it did come up trumps for some slippers!! Lucky dh!!!

What do you think about these? They are the best I've found so far..

Expensive, but hopefully being leather they will last. And he does use his (now threadbare) bag on a daily basis.

Debenhams have a few:
here
here,
here?
and here.
This is probably too small?

JackieNo · 16/10/2007 19:19

Monsoon has black or brown too.

JackieNo · 16/10/2007 19:24

MOre online, (and a larger version - also comes in extra large - good customer comments on that large version).

JackieNo · 16/10/2007 19:25

Mmm - I like this one and a good price too.

JackieNo · 16/10/2007 19:26

Oooh, and this one.

JackieNo · 16/10/2007 19:27

(the large version of that first Plain Leather link)

Spink · 16/10/2007 20:51

JackieNo - you STAR! I like the look of the fold-down flap one, and the price is fab. Very tempted...
What do you think of the Hidesign ones I linked to??

OP posts:
JackieNo · 16/10/2007 20:58

I like the Hidesign ones - they look really good too.

Spink · 17/10/2007 10:44

Anyone help me choose between the hidesign ones and the flap over one JackieNo found? I am being indecisive..

The large one in JackieNo's last link would suit me nicely. Get him a corduroy jacket with some leather elbow patches while you're on!

pigletmaker · 19/10/2007 19:35

The best ones I've seen are in Selfridges basement - a huge selection, (not even close to being as pricy as the women's handbags on the ground floor)

leathers, fabrics, colours, styles, classical or trendy, take your pick.

Last bag I bought for myself was from this dept and I'm female.

theSelfishMan · 20/10/2007 16:06

i got mine at greenwich market - had very similar requirements to yours... Based on my theory that all markets sell the same tat made in china, try your nearest one?
