Anyone know how to use a stanley stud detector?

I have borrowed a Stanley intelliLaser Pro from my Father in law, but don't have a clue how to work it and he is ill so I can't ask him. I need to find the joists in the ceiling. Annyone????
It just seems to beep ALL THE TIME...

I dont know about the newer ones but you have to "tune" ours so that it goes off when it hits the joist, so it sounds like it it set too high at the moment.

If you are lucky you can tap the ceiling and you will hear where the joist is - turn the dial so that it goes off there and nowhere else.

Ours also had a setting for pipes and cables so make sure it is set to find the right thing.

Having said that ours came out of the arc so I expect one of the guys will tell you im talking crap.

Mine bleeps continuous without any discernable pattern when then the battery is low.

Stanley also publish their manuals online.

Could do with a stud detector ....
