MRI /Biopsy results

Any men on here had MRI and or/Biopsy done for prostate cancer, and know how long it takes for results to come back please
My partner has had both, after a prostate infection, and it seems to be taking ages for any results to come back

I would recommend visiting the Prostate Cancer Uk site. They have downloads advising on diagnostic techniques, treatments etc. And have staff you can phone to talk too. They've been a great support to my family.

Thank you biopsy done and thought all well but recalled for something found on prostate tissue. Has to have another MRI for bones now

Have they given you an idea of what the possible outcomes of their investigation are? When my father was diagnosed with cancer there was no doubt and it was a very quick process. In his experience, from that point all the tests and results were quite quick. I think generally that they realise that the waiting, and not knowing if things are worse or better, can cause a lot of anguish.

Call from urologist saying not going to do MRI now, but another biopsy at another hospital a different one they do at our local, and if he needed an operation he would go to Castle Hill at Hull, another even bigger hospital, his lymph nodes were mentioned but he cant remember what was said,unless they think its gone into a lymph node
There were a lot of biopsy samples taken when he had the prostate shave, and its from them they have come to this conclusion
Doubt it will be before Christmas now
After having the prostate shave he suddenly poured with blood and passed out, he looks very healthy and young for his age, [70]anyone would think there was nothing wrong with him,
He had bowel cancer about 10 years ago, but all has been fine since then up to now, before I knew him
We have only been together about a year

Just to add, after looking at the bipsy samples they went back and looked at the last MRI again and that's when they decided to recall him,so must have seen something on there I think

I'm sorry. It's tough taking it all in. It might be worth writing notes in his appointments so if there is anything he's not sure of he can check there and then. The biopsies are not a pleasant experience so having to do a second is rough.
Another thing my dad did was go to each appointment with a list of questions. Anything relating to his previous or future treatment. It's very easy to come out of them not having followed everything, particularly when your emotions are all over the place.
If he is confirmed to have it then make sure you both understand the treatment options and their implications. Has he had a psa test done? It's a simple blood test that can indicate the presence of the cancer and its state of activity.

Yes he had a PSA test done in the first place , and even after his prostate shave it has gone up again, but its not that high I believe compared to some peoples
I don't know what kind of biopsy this will be, that can be any different from his last one
We don't live together, so I am not always sure what has been said,
His daughter tends to go with him for these consultations,
I really hope its nothing too bad, but still worrying that something else has cropped up now
We hope we can get Christmas out of the away before he has to go back

I have been told, and also read,that men can die with prostate cancer ,not because of it, and sometimes it doesn't even need treating,

Dad is so with us, 6 years after his diagnosis. His psa was 1920 when he was diagnosed, which is huge. At that point it had already spread to his bones and his lymph nodes and as such no surgical options existed. If it's caught early enough then it is possible to be cured, either through surgery (which has potential for some quite drastic side effects) or hormone treatment. If it's spread then it can be managed but all the treatments can take their toll. For dad the hormone treatment stopped working pretty quickly and he's had 4 different types of chemo. They've now exhausted treatment options for him but his psa remains low ~10. It's taken its toll on him but he's exceeded the life expectancy they gave him. Dad's is a more aggressive type and is likely to kill him but you're right most men live with it rather than die from it. Like i say it is the side effects from the treatments that he needs to be aware of. Or they monitor it and not treat it. However if it has spread then i think they would start hormone therapy straight away.
I don't engage on many threads as I don't usually feel I've got anything to contribute but this topic really resonates with me.
The prostate cancer uk helpline isn't just for the patients by the way. They'll happily speak to partners and family. I used it a few times to see how i could better support dad. So if you need to understand some of the implications then give them a call.

By the way his PSA was nothing like your dads, I think he said it was 12 and should be no higher than 4
Also just remembered he had another number given to him last week, not sure if its what they call the Gleason score, but was very low, only at 1
I have researched all this, and if that's what it is,shouldnt be too bad, ---hopefully

The latest is that they are going to give him a radioactive injection tomorrow,at 4pm, then he goes home for 3 hours, then back for a scan
Not sure what what this is for except to scan all bones
I will have a search later, after tea,
I have to say they are doing everything they can

Well I have only heard from him by phone, he sounds ok, and will tell me all about it tomorrow, so don't really know much myself yet,
Will update when I know more, because we don't live together, I don't always know everything straight away ,his daughter went with him
Just hoping its not really bad news he tends to minimise everything and say hes not worried, but I'm sure he must be
I don't know when he will get the results
Everyone I have spoken to about this,have said their husbands or partners have ended up having more treatment, for something or other,so thinking they must just be clarifying what has been seen or found

Hi, well scan only took about 20 minutes and he was back home very soon after, luckily he is only 10 minutes from the hospital
He is feeling well, but wont get results until the new year now of course,
Again lymph nodes were mentioned, but nothing specific
He had to drink lots of water to help with the radiation,

Been looking again for this thread.my partner has now been definitely diagnosed with prostates cancer, but doesnt yet know all the details, what stage its at etc,it has taken a long time to get here,
He goes on the 5th of March tp see the urologist
Lymph nodeswere mentioned, but maybe that was just in case it had spread to Lymph nodes
So at the moment its just fingers x.and hope for the best it can be

Forgot to say, they found a shadow on the perineum, and had to have yet another biopsy through there
It has taken a long time so i just hope no time has been wasted
Yhe urologist and Drs have kept him informed by phone, but i guess it will be radiotherapy or chemo as i believe that hospital at Casle hill is the main one to give this treatment
To keep going with all these tests etc, i think they must have known it was there but couldnt just pinpoint exactly where

I'm sorry to hear that. It has taken them a long time to come to the diagnosis.
I think they might keep him under a urologist on hormone treatment first. But they are continually looking at what the best order for the standard treatments is so maybe they will start with chemo. Dad also had some radiotherapy by injection to treat his bones.
When he know the course of treatment he'll be on then it'd be good to read up on it on the pcuk site.

Yes it has been a long carry on, but at least we are getting answers
I think he is fearing the worst as he has started makung plans to relations and friends he hasnt seen for a long time
It must be terrible for him but he makes light of it

Not a problem. The treatments can buy a lot of time. It's 6 years since dad was diagnosed. But it can be tough going with the side effects. The approach he takes will be important. If he can use it as a catalyst to do things he might not otherwise gotten around to, seeing old friends, weekends away then something good can come out of the experience. I think it's been important for Dad to have things to look forwards to. It's helped him to have targets and to work towards them when the treatment has been rough. It sounds like he has a good approach.

I read that the taller a man is the more likekey he is to to have prostate cancer
Glad your dad is still ok, how old was he when he got it,and did he have any symptoms,or found by accident because of another problem?as in this case really,as i believe there are often no symptoms

Hi, just thought you might be interested to know,that my partner has had his results today, no operation, but Hormone therapy, to lower testorterone/ [not too pleased about that,] and the side effects but needs must and he knows its nessecary sof course,also Radiotherapy,for 38-45 weeks, has to travel about a 70 mile round trip every day,
He got a grade 7, probably gleason score, not sure

I’m completely ignorant about prostrates I’m afraid to say but I just wanted to say I hope everything works out for your DP. The travel will undoubtedly be tiring and tiresome but worth it in the end.

Thank you, i am sure it will all be worth it in the end,every man should get tested, and there has been a lot of publicity about it just recently which can only be a good thing, as sometimes there are no symptoms
