9 Year old Daughter want ears pierced for her birthday.

Hello Peeps
I am hoping that one of you can point me in the right direction. The scenario is that my 8 year old did ask me to have her ears pierced. ( Mum (separated) had given permission, but told her that I had to also agree)
I told her that she would have to produce a cracking school report especially for Maths. I "pinky" promised, I have never broken one to date...
To be honest with you all, I am not so keen on the idea but a promise is a promise. Do you have any recommendations on where I can take her to have them done professionally, as I have heard of some awful experiences. Thank you

Oh please don't go to Claires. The piercing guns they use don't pierce the skin properly, they just force the blunt tip of the earring in.

Ask friends/family for any recommendations of a good beauty salon or check out reviews online.

Please go to a tattoo parlour.
It might sound a bit weird but they will have professional piercers.
They will do a better job and will also provide after care which will be lacking on the high street.

Please be honest and tell her it might hurt or you will be the bad guy for taking her!!
As long as she keeps them cleaned with the surgical spirit they give for the aftercare they will be fine!!

Agree on avoiding Claire's,, I heard some horror stories about ours. Do you think she's old enough to care for a piercing?

Go and find a proper tattooist parlour who are qualified to do piercings and get it done there.

Check some local chemists, that's where I got DDs done, was half the price of Claire's as well

Punkrockergirl - really? Completely unnecessary and irrelevant.
It is nice to see someone bothered enough about their child to ask these questions.

Do you have a Blue Banana near you? I agree about Claire's, would never go there for a piercing. I had mine done as a 10 year old at a hairdressers but one was wonky, so I had them redone a couple of years ago at Blue Banana and they were really professional, hygienic and had private rooms where they do piercings, rather than the public "window of the shop" like in some other places.

At 9 she is old enough to keep the piercings clean and look after them herself. I would let her go for it.

I'll get flamed for this, but I'd get my daughters ears pierced as soon as she's old enough. My mum did with me and I'm so glad.
I know they say a needle is better but I've got 6, 4 on the lobes and 2 through my left cartilage all of which were done with a gun. I had no problems. I'd hate the idea of it being done with a needle, pushing the needle through and then the earring. So I'd get them done with a gun.
As I said, I'll get flamed for this.

I had mine done when I was 9, it was a good age to have it done. I knew what was happening and I could take care of them myself (my parents did help)

Were you seriously taken in by this? Do you know anyone irl who says 'pinky promise' and expects to be taken seriously? Also 'peeps' just bleugh
Can you imagine the responses on here if a woman had posted a thread using the same terminology?

PunkrockerGirl- It appears that I have offended you, in the manner in which I choose to raise and speak to my daughters. I did seek advice from this group and you seem to have an issue with the fact that I am a "man" and using the term "Peeps". Well let me tell you that I'm a really good Dad. I pull my weight and choose to have them with me half the time, more if I have the opportunity. They are lovely!
As for me, I have been a Policeman for almost twenty years, I have developed a thick skin, dealing with individual unpleasant people like you, you have decided to be unpleasant and rude....Jog on...

I had my ears pierced when I was 6, my Mam took me to a jewelers, not sure I'd trust Claires personally

I'd go somewhere with two guns where they do both sides at once. I've had an ear piercing at a very fancy tattoo parlour - they did it with a needle and cork. I dont think my daughter would've let them do the second one!

My youngest DD requests 'pinky promises' when something is extremely important to her. It's child language to express the gravity of the promise for the said child. I can happily live with pinky promises.

However "just bleugh" has no such excuses. Crass colloquialism that has little justification for grown adults. I think the phrase "the pot calling the kettle black" is rather apt here!

Punkrickergirl are you just here to be needlessly rude, unpleasant and derailing?

Or do you actually have anything worthwhile to contribute? You might want to take your unnecessary unpleasantness elsewhere and check out the talk guidelines

I also recommend a tattoo parlour. 9 years seems fine to me, that is when I had mine done. I have not had my teen dd's ears done yet mainly due to her health issues and being extremely allergic but must add have had the best communication and advice from a tattoo parlour around here regarding her allergies and will be taking her there. They advise needle method to which I now understand to be best and using a titanium labrette in my daughters case.

Mmmmmm...Okay, I will feed the troll one last time "Pinky Promise"..... You could not help your self could you?? Pressing those keys to get your dig in :-)) .... I manage to do that as a single Dad, with the support of my parents. I work a full time 24/7 shift pattern. Whilst still managing after school clubs, parties etc. I also have them when my Ex has not seen her Boyfriend in a while, as she also works in the same Job, I do - Full time. We have both learnt valuable lessons too late for us .....the importance of dates nights...so we work more in partnership now,than we ever did when married.(newly weds, inexperienced parents).
Guess what? It's exactly what most of the single and cohabiting and married people have to do in this group. (If they are lucky to have a good relationship with Ex). It's not easy....I am sure that you could agree with that - so I'll take that compliment, thank you very much. Have a great evening :-)
