Want to give dh a special pressie but need techno help!

Really about this, hence name change, but dh and I have had a really stressful year and wanted to give him a special xmas pressie this year and I know it's something he has always wanted. I am trying to work out how to use our Sony dvd camcorder thingy to make a minidvd of me IYKWIM ( again), but I haven't got a clue and we don't have a tripod either. I have managed to work out how to open the case to put in a blank mini dvd but that's about it, (yes I know I really am that dim!) please can someone give me step by step instruction on how to get it to start recording?? (It's a Sony Handycam DCR-DVD405E if that helps)

you could really do with a tripod, they're cheap.

switch on the camcorder using the little lever/wheel on the side - I don't have the same model but we also have a Sony and they're all quite similar - there should be a little picture of a camera that you can set it to. The screen should now come on. Now press the record button (usually red and obvious). It'll start recording and won't stop until you're ahem - finished.

There are companies specialising in this sort of thing, you know - read about one with an all-female staff.

Now saying need to unfinalize disc, think this is cos I am recording over a previously used disc, how do I definalize it?

You need to change the setting.

right have just found the nightshot switch and switched to off! hey I'm getting good, think I need to go into the menu to de finalize but can't see how
