Hello, fashionistas

I'm looking for thoughts/recommendations for s gents' winter coat.

Middle aged, fairly tall, pretty skinny.

Normal mode of dress: part slightly eccentric ex-hipster history professor, part wannabe Scandinavian architect.

Suitable for school pick up and work pls!

Any thoughts/ideas very welcome

Budget...erm I suppose upto 300 if wearable for 3/4 years...

Many thanks in advance!

No idea what a wannabe Scandinavian architect would wear but I would choose a Crombie or Crombie-style overcoat every time.

Aaaah, Jean....I thought a renegade maverick like yourself might have an exact knowledge of the sartorial proclivities of Scando architects!

Hmmmm...yep, good choice...in fact, now that I think of it, you are, of course, correct...but where to source the right one.

Dark grey, nice lining, class.

But where to source?

I didn't know much about JS until relatively recently; FBI/CIA bollocks yet again.

Good name and thanks for the input

Well Crombie of course but a bit over your budget sadly, even in the sale.

Worth it though as it will last a lifetime if you look after it properly.

Could try vintage shops, eBay, mod culture sites...

Worth it?! Ha, blimey, you must have a nice clothing budget!

Hmmmm...gotta buy a car, a laptop and a coat this Jan, plus the tax bill...plus the Chrimbling credit card bills..gonna be an expensive one....!

Sorry, I was referring to the sale price being worth it eg:

Anyway, enjoy your new coat, whatever you choose.

Nice....hmmmm, we'll see.

Single breasted crombie is definitely the way to go though...you've convinced me, thanks so much for your advice.

I'd have opted for a nice Pea coat. Great with smart or casual and warm.

Scandinavian architect - some kind of wearable SAAB is needed then.

My coat is more practical than hipster. I like the waterproof outdoor jackets with zip out fleeces that Berghaus and North Face make. I've got two different weight fleeces, one for normal winter weather and really warm one for when it really is freezing.
