How did your mum make you feel special when you were a little boy?

Hope that's not an odd question but would love to hear your stories. I didn't grow up with a father in the house so the opposite gender parent relationship was missing.

Now I have a DD and a DS and I am very happy nurturing them both but I am conscious that I know exactly what makes DD feel special because I have been that little girl. But I'd love to know what things your mum did for you or said to you or sang to you that made you feel special. I'm guessing it's a lot of the same things but I'd just like to hear your stories.

DJC, I don't think there is much difference, to be honest. Kids need to feel loved and cherished, but also know what the boundaries are. I don't treat my son any different to my daughter - for good or ill!

I know this isn't what you asked for, but if you treat them both the same, they will know they are loved, and that is what counts. The fact you are asking this shows you are doing a fine job.

That's nice of you to say namechangeguy. I do definitely treat them the same and cuddle and kiss them all the time. Just wondered about special songs and poems and stuff like that that men remember and felt were just for them. Like my daughter thinks that Charlie Rich song 'Did you happen to see the most beautiful girl in the world' is about her because I tell her it is (giving away my age there) and I wondered if anyone had a similar thing.

I used to sing "Diamonds On the Soles Of Her Shoes" to dd when she was very little. She is at that very self-conscious stage now and hates it! She'll come round again.

oh we love that song. My DS calls it the Ta Na Na song Grin

And so shall I now.

She didn't.

But if you're after an answer OP, then less shouting and more listening would have been nice.
