What men want from a relationship: the definitive Mumsnet list?

Anyone men brave enough to have a go at this?

I'll have a go from a single-dads point of view.

The usual honesty, mutual attraction etc.

Realise that my children come first.
Be financially independent.
To be good fun and be able to hold a conversation.
Not try and change me.
To not think xboxes are childish, and I won't think MN is silly.

Only ask me what I'm thinking if you want my honest answer.

I'm sure there's more.

openess
ability to 'have a giggle'
be supportive and take an interest
not get wound up or stressy
random acts of affection ... when your not expecting it
ditto tea

for both people to say what they really think without hurting or taking it as a criticism

to realise that your both your own people, but be able to function (not sure if thats the right word) as a couple

have fun

agree that i make the best spag bol in the world. fact.

Housework isn't important.
Doesn't get livid or fuming over petty stuff.

I can't see me living with an adult ever again.

DW is my best friend and she has been that for 30 years. We understand each other and we laugh together and we share the same basic view about the world and we each know what the other will say before we say it.

Yes physical attraction and all that but best friends is most important.

TiggyD · 13/01/2012 23:21

Nice boobs, a sense of humour, a sports car, and a similar dress size to me.

BelleDameSansMerci · 13/01/2012 23:28

Tiggy, if you're a size 12 I'm your older woman girl... Grin

TiggyD · 13/01/2012 23:40

My legs are about a 12. Each. Overall an 18ish, but I could squeeze into a 12. I just have to give up breathing.

BelleDameSansMerci · 13/01/2012 23:52

I could eat more cake. It must be possible somehow.

MrsWembley · 13/01/2012 23:57

Nice to see dads having a go at this.

I'm glad fun/sense of humour is coming up - I may not be a 12 or young/pretty but I'm good at the silly stuff. One of the reasons DP and I get along so well.Smile

Keep this going, dads!

TiggyD · 14/01/2012 00:03

And kindness. That's very important too.

Try eating goose fat Belle. It's also kinda sexy for later Wink

TiggyD · 14/01/2012 00:04

Even though I've only had a girlfriend for 2 weeks and was a bit scared. She was an older lady too.

ShirleyForAllSeasons · 14/01/2012 00:06

I am laughing my tits off at Tiggy tonight.

Youllbewaiting · 14/01/2012 02:03

Must love to laugh, not at anything in particular, just randomly, out loud for no reason at all.

Must like cosy nights in with a bottle of wine and a DVD. So she won't get bored when I'm in the pub.

Must liking Zumba is a must must, as I have no idea what it is but it's on every internet dating profile I've read. Some kind of Bavarian cheese?

Must have rose-tinted glasses. And plenty of room for all my baggage.

Warmth and generosity of spirit.
Self-respect/esteem as well as respect for others.
Goes like a belt-fed wombat.

AgentOrange · 19/01/2012 05:03

Fidelity, Integrity, Competence, Eloquence, and Honor.

UnlikelyAmazonian · 03/02/2012 00:27
