PC World advert...WTF?

SleepyCaz · 12/09/2010 09:25

Has anyone else seen the new PC World ad?

Male voiceover

"I'm going back to uni and need a powerful laptop to handle my work, blah blah... This mega big and powerful Acer-Whatever is perfect for all my studies and research... blah blah..."

Then ...

"...and when my girlfriend wants to go online, here's this pink mini netbook for half price!"

It might not sound that bad, but the whole tone of the voiceover is very sexist.

I agree, it should be much more honest.

"Anything you buy from us is shit, poorly built and will go wrong quickly. Hence our shit TechGuy support service. See you soon, suckers!".

DanceInTheDark · 12/09/2010 16:06

It should say "You may think we are called PC World, but the majority of the developed world call us PC Wank. There are reasons and they are many. We have staff in our stores who will look like they want to help you but actually we are too busy installing spyware into all of our products to care. Thank you have a nice day"

DanceInTheDark · 12/09/2010 16:06

oh wait - this is dadsnet.....oh well

TechLovingDad · 12/09/2010 16:14

I'm not sure their staff are clever enough to install spyware. They have to read off the cards, by the pcs, before they can tell you what it is.

DanceInTheDark · 12/09/2010 16:18

LOL!! Yes we have experienced that too. I can find my way round a computer but am by no means an expert or anywhere close but I could give better advice than they do!

"Have you plugged it in and switched it on Mrs DITD"?

Hmm

edam · 12/09/2010 16:19

Wow, that does sound bad. Am enjoying all the suggestions for more accurate descriptions of the company, though. Grin

TechLovingDad · 12/09/2010 16:20

The good thing is that my mum and her friends all buy from PC World, then keep me in beer by asking me to fix their pcs. Grin

I should advertise PC World.

gothicmama · 12/09/2010 16:42

so where is a good place to buy from

TechLovingDad · 12/09/2010 16:46

Direct from manufacturers, Dell, Acer, even HP are decently well built, good value for money. Apple are obviously high price but worth it. If you want user reviews, www.ebuyer.co.uk is good value and you get real feedback.

PC World profit from the fact that too many people don't know what they are looking at. The kit they sell is poorly built and filled with unnecesary software, perfect fodder for needing their Tech Guy warranties. My mum says "It's a good thing I took out the warranty, I've sent it back twice". If she'd bought a decent machine in the first place, she wouldn't need to take it back.

TechlovingDad - don't suppose you have the URL or know which day of the month the Apple Refurb shop is open?
