Tour de France 2026 peloton

Chains are being greased and oiled as I type. Crush barriers being erected. “Special” sauces are being prepared…. all for the biggest push bike race in the world.

Is the MN peloton pumping some air in our tyres?

Favourite of the day was Bourdin utterly refusing to concede to the pack for about 2 miles when he knew the game was up. So admired his bloody minded stubbornness.

Huge Jonas fan and Visma superfan here!
Poor de Lie Sad I was hoping he’d survive the stage today and be feeling better in time for the sprint stages.

SadiraOfTyr · 06/07/2026 22:27

I have been flat out busy for three days and will watch all highlights tomorrow during conference calls. I know it’s and incredibly long shot in his first grand tour but I’m so rooting for Paul Seixas. I have studiously avoided any results so far so will not be checking back here until I’ve watched the highlights.

JustPlainStanfreyPock · 07/07/2026 09:45

Oops, sorry didn't mean to post a spoiler!

Sadly our local lad Oscar Onley never made it to the Grand Depart so I'm fairly neutral. It would be good to see a French rider doing well, although I do love Pogi's style so always enjoy seeing him win. Lots to look forward to.

Such a shame about Onley’s crash Sad
It seems like the French media is putting so much pressure onto Seixas, he’s undoubtedly a huge talent but he’s only 19!

RNApolymerase · 07/07/2026 19:52

Hello! Watching highlights on channel 4 but to see it live might have to become virtually Aussie again, that worked for the Giro. Today's winner was in my velo games team!

Completely agree! I feel like he needs much less pressure on him.

I called second on the finish today, it was incredible!

Did anyone see pog give his flowers and bidon to the little fan? Was gorgeous 😍

RandomUsernameHere · 08/07/2026 18:41

What a result today! I won’t say who won, but it was who I was hoping!

@HollyGolightly4yes I saw that, it was such a lovely moment, it was like she couldn’t believe it ❤️

AnneKipankitoo · 09/07/2026 19:29

The Channel 5 coverage is awful. The pictures, the

graphics, the stats, the commentary….
I was so happy when I found out it was going to be on 5.
( our recordings of it have been intermittent…tech! ) I miss Gary, Ned, David, and the other guy who was fluent in French. I can see him but can’t remember his name.
The Grand Départ is in Edinburgh next year and they are looking for volounteers to bring a JOY factor.

AnneKipankitoo · 09/07/2026 19:32

Daniel Friebe!

ReturnofthePan · 09/07/2026 20:01

Yes Anne, just watched today’s highlights on 5 and it’s all a bit flat. Reminds me a bit of tv football pundits who just describe what we have all just seen with zero analysis. And it looks like it’s done on minimal cost.

so that’s the yellow jersey come home to stay n’est-ce pas?

Daniel Friebe!

Yes it just isn’t the same with the new commentators and studio team. I loved Peter too, they were all great and I could listen to David Millar all day long.
Its a poor man’s version.

PermanentTemporary · 09/07/2026 20:43

Dp is really enjoying For The Love of Cycling with the old gang.

AnneKipankitoo · 09/07/2026 20:45

@ReturnofthePan I have not watched today’s yet or heard any results.
Oh, the agony of hearing the result driving home from work😂

AnneKipankitoo · 09/07/2026 20:51

Is that the podcast @PermanentTemporary ?

TonTonMacoute · 09/07/2026 21:00

Well, hello!

We have only been watching the channel 5 highlights as it's just too hot to be inside watching - even though they were doing the Col de Tourmalet today.

Really missing the ITV coverage, it was so good. I can't stand the Hatch/Kelly commentary on TNT, it's not a patch on the Boulting/Miller team.

AnneKipankitoo · 09/07/2026 21:08

I have Ned’s book. It was a good read.

PermanentTemporary · 09/07/2026 21:15

Yes @AnneKipankitoo. I’ll admit I haven’t listened yet but am missing David Millar so hope to catch some tomorrow.

AnneKipankitoo · 09/07/2026 22:38

I have just watched today’s highlights on 5 and it was better. Maybe getting trained.
The ladies are a bit like the newsreaders on our local news programmes. That’s not a positive.

I like TVL too. I love Victor Campanaerts' vlog on Instagram, (sorry if I've spelt your name wrong Victor) and feel I have really got to know the team because of it. I'm rooting for Jonas even though I expect Pog will prevail

HollyGolightly4 · 09/07/2026 23:35

I love the hatch/Kelly combination.

And hannah walker is a treat!

AnneKipankitoo · 11/07/2026 09:41

Watched it last night. Enjoyed it more this time.

JustPlainStanfreyPock · 11/07/2026 10:02

Big fans of Sean Kelly here, we often ask one another if we have the Fat-igue...

boundarysponge · 11/07/2026 11:19

I’ve gone back to Channel 5 with gritted teeth. It’s not great, miss the context that ITV used to give.
Anyone else finding the studio graphics poor?

AnneKipankitoo · 11/07/2026 13:36

Yes. The race profile on the climbs are not great.
There is also a blurred outline when names are up.
It might not be 5’s fault though.
