It’s my dd 9th birthday soon and am looking for a bike for her. We are not a family of cyclists in anyway so it would be for light use.
there’s a Viking Belgravia 24 inch second hand- looks nice but is it any good? We were using bike club but they kept putting prices up and took away the option of ownership.

It wouldn't be my choice to be honest, on account of the weight. A quick Google tells me it has a steel frame and weighs 14kg. For comparison the heaviest (adult) bike that I own is my mountain bike which is just over 13kg. My Summer road bike is almost exactly 7kg. 14kg is a heavy bike for an adult, never mind a 9 year old girl - unless she's very tall for her age that will probably be around half her body weight.

If your budget will run to it I'd look for something like an Islabike Bheinn which is about 8kg or a Frog 61at around 9kg. Islabikes have gone out of business but there's still a thriving second hand market and they're pretty much bomb proof so second hand should be fine. If you particularly want a step through frame Frog do a "city" version of the 61 though it will be a little heavier. But whatever style you prefer, see if you can find something with an aluminium frame. The difference that having a lighter, easier to manoeuvre bikes makes to how much children enjoy riding is really noticeable in my experience.

Thank you! Will look for something lighter, I’ve heard of those from bike club but they seem really expensive but I guess I could sell it again!
