We’re looking for a first bike for our soon to be 7 year old. We tried some out in a shop and it looks like an 18” would be best.

However, he has his heart set on a Spider-Man bike. I’ve searched high and low and cannot find anything above 16” with characters on.

Has anyone seen any 18” bikes with Spiderman or Marvel characters on?

Could you not buy a plain bike and have it customised or sprayed all one colour and then add vinyl decals?

@PInkyStarfish I didn’t even know that was a thing! Thanks!

I would second removable stickers on a plain bike. You could also look for themed accessories such as spoke lights or water bottle and bottle cage/ holder.

They sell more "adult" versions of spider bikes could something like this work? And just buy a few kiddie spider man stickers to add to the decal? Or just buy a black bike and get some stickers! My DS would love putting the stickers on himself x

I'd agree with the suggestion of getting some stickers and decorating a decent quality plain bike. Unfortunately most "character" bikes are low quality and very heavy. Whilst your DS may love the idea of a spiderman bike, what will make more difference to how much he enjoys his bike in the longer term is how easy it is to ride. I see this fairly often at the kids' cycling club I help run - child arrives on their brand new character bike but soon gets fed up of not being able to pedal up the hills or make the tight turns whilst their friends on a third hand Frog or Islabike are zipping all over the place and picking up new skills easily. Some of those kids bikes are crazily heavy. I've picked up bikes belonging to 6 year olds and found that they are getting on for twice the weight of my own bike. They look great and it's not surprising that children are attracted to them but the novelty wears off quickly when riding is hard work and they can't keep up with their friends,
I'd opt for the lightest plain, dark coloured bike you can afford and decorate it yourself. I just had a quick look on Ebay and there are all kinds of stickers for spiderman and various marvel characters. Plus you could get a bell and a helmet with the characters on. That way he gets something unique and isn't going to be slowed down by a heavy bike.
