Cycle stands/bike parking - why so little of it?

Now and then we try to use bikes for days out. We are not proficient or confident on the roads so unfortunately lots of our 'bike rides' turn in to 'bike walks' as per today.

Anyway I digress, we managed to cycle/walk to Warkworth Castle and wanted to visit the castle but no cycle parking. Nothing to lock our bikes to!!

We only just managed to lock our bikes to the chunky fencing on the approach to the gatehouse but this will have been slightly in the way for other people, certainly for photos.

I noticed the pub we were in prior to visiting the castle, no where to lock the bikes to. Pub we went to the other day, nothing to lock them to and no where even to stand them without them being on the pavement in the way.

We then went onto a harbour area in Amble, again no where to lock the bike while walking around. I saw other cyclists looking around frustrated as well.

Every second post on here is 'get a bike/use a bike', well Im not leaving something worth more than my car (yes I have an old banger) unlocked, precariously sitting about unless I can secure it somewhere.

We've got home and Ive been googling, theres a few threads from many years ago on a cycling forum about this exact same thing, people trying to go shopping and no where to put their bike.

Its incredible.

As someone whose bicycle is my only form of transport, I agree with you.

I agree with you. There is one outside our local leisure centre, but I always take the battery off and have to cart it to the locker which is a faff (not a good area so not going to leave the battery on). There are enough where we stop for a coffee on most cycle routes near us, but not all.

In our town and the next nearest one, there are cycle racks but they are not in good places i.e. too out of the way to make you feel secure about leaving a bike, let alone an e bike. In our own town the main bike racks are in the middle of the benches where the local drunks hang out and I just don't fancy having to have a conversation with them while locking my bike up, although to be fair the bikes would still be there when we got back as they are good security.
