Are servicing/maintenance packages worth it!

I’ve just bought a bike from Evan’s. They offer an annual cover for repairs, services, maintenance etc. just wondering g if it’s worth it or not? My bike usage is light!

I guess it depends on what it covers, what it costs and what you are willing/able to do yourself but it's fairly likely that an annual plan is not great value for money. I think these things are often a bit like extended warranties on white goods - work out well for a minority of people but most of us won't get our money's worth out of them. Companies wouldn't offer them if they were financially advantageous to the majority of customers so that they didnmake a profit!
Things will wear out eventually of course and you'll need things like cables replacing, a new chain and so on but if you look after your bike and you're not doing a big mileage you're unlikely to need frequent work doing and it's probably going to work out cheaper to pay for servicing at a local bike shop when needed if you can't or don't want to do it yourself.
Presumably if it's a new bike there's some kind of warranty so if anything major goes wrong it will be covered for some period of time anyway? I'd check the small print and maybe find out what servicing costs at a couple of local bike shops and then decide whether the plan looks like good value or not.
Washing your bike properly after use, especially in the winter, and making sure the drive train is properly lubricated is probably the best thing you can do to increase its longevity and minimise repair costs.

That’s really helpful - thank you.

I am a pretty lazy cyclist and don't do my own maintenance beyond the very basic. We have a mobile cycle maintenance van that comes and does repairs in the van outside our house. It's not too expensive and is great for stuff like punctures where you don't have to get the bike anywhere to get it sorted
