What a brilliant start! I really love the fact that the para and able events are mixed together rather than having the para events as an afterthought at the end. A great start on the track for GB, let’s hope the weather holds for the road and MTB. The gold/silver in the women’s tandem pursuit has been the highlight so far for me, with the men’s scratch race a close second.

I hope the weather is reasonable tomorrow as I am going to watch the end of the road race. If it is not bad weather I'll take my wife with me but she uses a wheelchair and hates heavy rain.

Conditions during the men’s downhill are shocking but I guess the riders are used to that at Fort William. Poor guys on the hot seat are shivering under umbrellas.

I was at the Downhill today!! Women's conditions were great for Fort William...the mens became atrocities and I was trackside at one of the sketchiest parts 😳😳

Amazing riding in the DH. Unfortunately I was too busy (well, cross eyed after watching all day…) to watch the track in the evening and unfortunately saw the results this morning 😡 Will have to watch today before the road race. No time to get a ride of my own in so will have to be a quick run in the rain.

Just spent the afternoon on the sofa watching the men's road race. That was exciting!

viques · 06/08/2023 19:32

go Kadeena! What a star.

viques · 07/08/2023 18:14

Oh that was good to see. A 52 year old winning the womens time trial! Sugiara, what an incredible athlete , doing it for the invisible ones.

And a UK gold in the mens freestyle bmx, real heart in the mouth stuff, their poor mothers must be watching from behind the sofa.

Is it just online? I saw some of the qualifiers online. It's so easy to miss things when there are so many channels/platforms

BCCoach · 07/08/2023 22:48

@tobee its all on BBC! Also on Eurosport and GCN+.

Absolutely bonkers wasn’t it? Who on earth came up with that course? A nice warmup ride from Edinburgh to Glasgow and then a 150km city centre crit. And I used to think my local town centre races looked a bit hard…

We're heading up at the weekend for MTB xc and the womens road race, might also catch some para road racing on Friday on the way north.

Thanks @BCCoach

We were in Glasgow on Sunday to watch the men's race. Unbelievable the speed they were doing around the circuit. You could feel the wind from the riders as they passed.

The support vehicles were flying too. They were really going for it around the tight corners trying to keep up with the peleton.

Yep, I’ve seen support vehicles go round tight corners basically on two wheels to keep up with the pack. And Glasgow was actually a very slow circuit due to so many corners and the sharp climbs - the speeds the sprint trains are moving at at the end of a flat race stage (lining up the sprinters for the final 200m to the line) has to be seen - and heard! It’s feels like an express train going past you only inches away - imagine what it is like riding in the pack at 60kph where the slightest mistake would result in a horrific accident.

Just catching up on the track. The mixed C team sprint is extraordinary. The triple amputee in P1 for Spain was just brilliant, P2 struggling to hold his wheel despite having both legs.

DS and I are volunteering at the paracycling in Dumfries. More or less all the pro cyclists I have ever met have been really nice and friendly but the para cyclists are another level. Such awesome people, fabulous atmosphere. And decent weather forecast, at least til Saturday which looks a bit dodgy! Fingers crossed...

BCCoach · 09/08/2023 22:40

@MrsAvocet aww, that’s great to hear! I’m looking forward to the road para cycling. Did you meet Dame Sarah? She strikes me as quite intense!

Not today no,she's racing tomorrow. But I have met her previously. She brought her children to a Youth cycling event I was running and she was very nice- very encouraging and supportive to all the youngsters.
