I mean I can find hotels and ring them up but that seems a long way round is there a list/site I can use?

one or two of the budget hotel chains are apparently good on letting you take (presumably pretty clean) bikes into their rooms. Can't remember which ones. I'd get in touch with them and ask/check out their web pages.

Premier inn are good and allow bikes everywhere except the hub hotels and I think Travelodge are too busy haven't tried them.

For our tours abroad I also use biroto.eu which has hotel lists on official routes, or look at websites/reviews.

But haven't tried them

Thanks @CirreltheSquirrel

I normally stay in the travelodge at the airport when I go to Liverpool but I'm fed up of wading through the plunes of smoke at the front door to get in

Premier Inns are bike friendly, so usually a safe bet. Also AirBnB where you book a whole house are sometimes a good option but study the photos to make sure entranceway and into a room are all hard floor. We have kept bikes in Airbnb kitchens many a time. Fine for a couple but maybe not if you’ve got mountain bikes for a family of 5 but worth considering. These places tend to just want to be left spic and span so as long as you are confident you will do no damage with your bike there’s usually nothing that says you can’t store it in the house.
