Ankle rubbing on crank/chainset

I'm trying to buy a new bike after a year off cycling following an injury.

Have found a bike that is perfect for me except for one thing, my right ankle was rubbing on the bike with every pedal cycle, I'm assuming on the crank or the protective bit next to the chain/cogs.

Has anyone else encountered this and have any suggestions?

I had that once with some winter boots as I’d not quite set the SPD cleat up correctly… easily fixed though by a bit of tweaking. I think the fact the boots were quite wide (they were very thick) contributed to it. I’ve got an Ergon cleat tool now which I highly recommend (there’s a mountain bike cleat version too), it’s a foolproof way of getting the angle and positioning spot on. So yeah… just trial and error with your cleat position really. There’s a film on GCN’s YouTube Chanel (google it) about how to set clears up, so you could use that as a starting point.
