Cycling in London/Bromley - help with routes etc?

Travelling from Ipswich so I can get off at Stratford or Liverpool Street Station

And I need to go to the Bromley Court Hotel

Is there a nice easy route or will it be a bugger?

Planning on bringing my own bike; assuming there will be bike racks nearby

I dont want to drive and the tube etc exhausts me - so much walking!

Liverpool St is closer and you can use the Citymapper app to map a quiet route on non busy roads … it’s not an especially nice cycle though. I would take buses personally (SE Londoner).

The direct routes place it at 11 miles vs 14 so not much difference (and I have an electric bike)

I'll download the app thanks for the suggestion

I get panic attacks on buses! So I'm not really a fan Wink

Someone has suggested either lime or jump bikes....but that looks expensive - I cycle at between 8 & 10 miles an hour (when I know where I'm going!)

Also mentioned was the 'blue line' from Stratford- any ideas what that is?

OK the bike is booked on the train & so am I!!

The nice safe route on my phone has disappeared & I am panicking somewhat

Is the Greenwich footbridge a good place to cross?

Are you.arriving at Liverpool St or Stratford. Its going to be quite a trek. The BCH is nearer.to Grove Park than Bromley

AnnaDyne · 31/08/2021 20:11

Have you looked at cyclestreets? here is a route from Liverpool Street . it gives quiet, balanced and fast routes as an alternative.

KatyMac · 31/08/2021 20:14

I've decided on Stratford it's only about 15 miles and the hotel will charge my battery for going home

Stratford had some quieter routes but they have disappeared from my map

Google had me on a ferry!

I don't know what happened to that link but if you type in Liv. St to Grove Park by bike you get the directions taking various routes and one has a cycle safe route, via Deptford and Lewisham. You don't need to go to Greenwich. Once you are at Grove Park station you just continue up Plaistow Lane towards Bromley and the hotel is on your left.

FleasInMyKnees · 31/08/2021 20:17

its the route via the A200 and A20, it says 50 mins.

FleasInMyKnees · 31/08/2021 20:18

and the hotel is on your right, not the left, that's going the other way towards London.

KatyMac · 31/08/2021 20:24

This doesn't look too bad!

For the hotel to be on your right you’d be going up Bromley Hill heading away from London. Plaistow Lane goes past Sundridge Park station and runs out towards Bickley.

FleasInMyKnees · 31/08/2021 20:31

I always get the road names wrong😟

SydneyCarton · 31/08/2021 20:42

I get Burnt Ash Lane, Burnt Ash Hill and Baring Road completely confused 😕

KatyMac · 31/08/2021 20:51

I don't stand a chance then Wink

I haven't lived in London since '97

I think that app is OK I'll see how I go; I have allowed myself about 2.25 hrs and it should take 1.5!

It's a lovely hotel so have a great time and have a safe journey

KatyMac · 31/08/2021 21:10

Thanks - it's an appt I dont need to go to and I will be stressed at

So a nice long bike ride either end will be fab!

Oh dear, hope you are ok.

Hollyhead · 31/08/2021 21:23

I’d cycle from Liverpool Street to London Bridge and then get the overground rail to Grove Park and just cycle from there - takes about 20 mins! No faffing with tube or bus needed.

KatyMac · 31/08/2021 21:32

My uncle is reorganising his 80th Birthday (from last year)

He isnt NT so he has been driving the poor woman at the hotel mad with phone calls plus he has just been diagnosed with altzeimers (yesterday - although we have known for years)

Hmm maybe @Hollyhead, on the way home if I am tired

On the train!

OMG it was so easy compared to putting it in the guards carriage!

Are you at the hotel already, wow, did it all go as planned.

KatyMac · 01/09/2021 17:02

Got there by about 11:15 (due at 11) despite having to carry it up and down the stairs at Woolwich!!

My Uncle forgot he was going so I did the whole thing myself; then I went to his and we discussed a nursing home

I am now on a train out of Liverpool Street and I went across Tower Bridge on the way home - emotionally exhausted
