Where should I sell my bike

Hi all

In a moment of lockdown madness I bought a Pashley Princess Sovereign. It's a lovely bike but too heavy for me.

I'd like to sell it and have all the documentation. It's in great condition.

How does one go about this? Do I just stick it on eBay?

Any advice v gratefully received!

I recommend Facebook marketplace. It is free to use, whereas eBay charges you as does PayPal. We’ve sold 6 high end bikes via marketplace with no problems. I’ve also listed them on GumtreeUK but they’ve always sold from Facebook.

I’ve never posted bikes - I’ve put collection only. People will travel! I always prefer someone to see what they are buying and test ride.

I’d recommend researching prices others are selling the same model secondhand for. Check eBay, GumtreeUK and Facebook marketplace for that.

Check if the model is currently out of stock in the U.K. - if it is you’ll probably get away with asking for a higher price. Put in the listing it’s out of stock.

Put plenty of quality photos on - ensure you show tyre condition. If you’ve hardly ridden it - state that. If you’ve kept it indoors or under cover - put that. If you’ve never ridden it in the rain - put that.

Sorry for stupid question how do you organise payment?

cash payment, cash on collection would be ordinary.
You can offer bank transfer, too.
I'm very curious what you end up selling it for, OP.

eBay takes ~12%, and doesn't want sellers using Paypal now, btw.

As above!

I’ve taken cash. Cash is a pain though as there are no banks in my town. I’ve also had a bank transfer. Providing they have a smartphone and mobile banking they just need your account number and sort code. The money will show in your account immediately.

It sounds obvious - but clean it up! Polish it. Make it gleam. Get any dirt off the tyres. I often see bikes listed which are grubby. I ignore those listings. If they can’t be bothered to clean it to sell, I assume they’ve probably not looked after it and I’ll have to replace stuff.

I’d also link to to the page on the pashley website with the spec.

Oh and don’t forget to put the size - again lots of people forget that.

I tend to put “frame size X, I’m 5ft 6 and it fits me perfectly.”

If they want to test ride (I always encourage this). They leave their car keys with me.
