Cycling shorts

Hi
We've recently got mountain bikes and we're thoroughly enjoying it. My husband had a genetic condition that causes numbness and that numbness can last for days/weeks at a time (I bet you know where this is going....) he's said the saddle is obviously causing some numbness in that general area and we wondered if anyone could suggest any kind of shorts, alternative seats etc or any other ideas you've come across.

Thanks :)

I'm a road cyclist predominantly so not really au fait with what's available for mountain bikes, but I would definitely invest in a decent pair of cycling shorts. You could put a pair of road shorts under some baggier shorts maybe, or I think some brands of MTB shorts have a padded liner. As a general rule with cycling kit I am afraid you do get what you pay for, so given your DH's pre existing condition, I would be inclined to invest in at least a mid range pair.
Saddle wise, for road bikes you can definitely get saddles with cut outs or a pressure relief channel down the middle that some find helpful. Im not sure about MTB saddles but you can probably get similar. Just be careful not to buy a women's saddle by mistake - the cut outs are in different places! (My teenage son grabbed my bike to nip to the post office a few months ago, as it was nearest the door....he won't make that mistake again!!)
I found this article that might be of some help. Hope he finds something that improves the situation soon.
