I am well pissed off!

While I was at a meeting in the library about how to make the town nicer for everyone! which just adds insult to injury!

So I'm at the bike shop tomorrow having wheel nuts/bolts/lock-thingies put on...and a new wheel Sad Angry

It’s a rough lesson to learn. I use a big lock and a cable that goes through them both

KatyMac · 26/03/2019 22:55

Huge lock - but must add the cable

Lesson learnt

That's bad. I never lock my front wheel!

CaptainSquirrel · 26/03/2019 22:57

Fuckers. I had my fucking seat nicked once. And my tyres let down and the little nuts removed on another occasion. People are arseholes.

KatyMac · 26/03/2019 22:58

When we go out together we top and tail them and use a lock at either end

But this means another 2 locks ( and that is without considering DD's bike)

Some oik stole my bike saddle once, that made for a fun journey home. It is almost more annoying losing bits of a bike than the whole thing.

KatyMac · 26/03/2019 23:01

I mean realistically what is the resale value of a second and bike wheel?

It was done to piss me off

Sometimes parts of bikes are stolen to "incapacitate" the bike so they can come back and steal it later.

Brooks saddles are valuable so are stolen for the saddle, you can make it difficult though.

Front wheels I just stick a cable through, not going to stop someone determined but is another step. Same goes for making sure you bike used nuts and bold instead of quick releases.

If I'm with DP we use each other's D locks if possible to lock wheels and frames to street furniture.

Wolfiefan · 26/03/2019 23:22

Bastards.
Angry

KatyMac · 27/03/2019 07:41

I wonder, olderthanyouthink, silly buggers!

Like I'd leave it there without the wheel it fits in the back of a car! Mind you if we hadn't had the car....

I tend to lock the front wheel with the bike frame onto (whatever), rather than the back wheel as the gears make the back wheel more difficult to remove well, I find it more difficult Wink

But what a bastard Angry

MrPan · 27/03/2019 16:31

Hang 'em high.

KatyMac · 27/03/2019 23:20

I took it in and bought a loopy thing for DH and me

We always locked the back wheel as that is where the motor is

I now have an expensive decision (quite apart from the theft!) I reckon I only have about 2/3 months left of battery
New battery is £300!!! Do I buy the new bike I want before the battery runs out or buy a new battery and hang on another year....i'm pretty broke atm!

Esp after paying for a wheel

How much is the new bike?

I'm looking the convert one of my bikes to an e bike but motor will be in the middle not on a wheel.

KatyMac · 28/03/2019 08:06

that is part of the problem - I haven't looked yet!!but I imagine between 1500-2500

That's one of the reasons I'm changing - the motor/battery/shopping all being on the bake wheel makes it less stable

The longer I wait the better the price to weight ratio becomes!! Eg mine is 24.5kgs I saw one for 15 but it's £4k!! And I can't afford that !
