Biking/camping tour holidays

DH the person who won't sleep anywhere but his bed has decided we should seriously think about biking and camping holidays...

Has anyone any experience? He's thinking of Denmark/Holland because we have 2 DC (7&9) so don't want anything too difficult. His plan would be to cycle around 40km with the DC, then he would go back and get the car and drive it to where we are going to camp so we don't need to carry stuff on the bikes.

I'm a bit Confused but my main worry is that I don't want the DC cycling on the roads yet. Does anyone have experience of bike routes in these countries and is it possible to keep to off-road routes 99% of the time?

I love camping, I love cycling.

This sounds like an exhausting nightmare.

Will he want to cycle 40km at 7yo speed?
You have to pack up camp every morning, wait for him at destination while he cycles 40k and drives 40k, with none of your gear.

Possibly in pouring rain.

I would only agree to a two day trial of this plan.

Maybe a two Centre holiday with lots of cycle trails in the vicinity, and he cycles between the two mid week while you take the car (and kids).
