C25K for bikes?

Posted this in exercise, then someone told me about the cycling board!

I have been signed up for a 45mile charity bike ride in Sept (not a race)

Last year I was able to do a 5k run using the C25K to help me... Just wondered if anyone has used an equivalent for cycling?

Failing that, anyone have suggestions/recommendations for getting me from a 3-4x a year, max 30 mins at a time, rider to being able to do 45 miles?

Thanks all

I don't know what C25K is, but when I returned to cycling I could barely manage 5 miles. What helped me improve was doing regular shortish rides (commuting), even after a couple of weeks I could feel the improvement. Then I started doing longer rides at the weekend, slowly building up (eg, 10, 12, 15, 20 etc). I deliberately included some hills to increase my strength, but mainly worked on endurance, this included making sure I ate the right things before hand, and taking drinks etc along.
Within a few months I could easily manage 30 miles and entered a 100k (65 mile) sportive. I got round it ok, by pacing myself (slow!) but was proud of the achievement.
Its a lot easier if you have companions, try contacting a local club and see if they do regular rides, most will do an easier and a harder one each weekend, and some also do women only rides.

This will get you to 30 miles.

Thanks both, so really useful information.

C25K is Couch to 5k running app.
