Sad news, it appears he was hit by a vehicle.

Here's something from happier times

Such horrible and scary news, RIP to a great cyclist.

Oh that video from the twitter status is wonderful. How absolutely amazing, how on earth do you end up doing that?

I feel for his family and his young children, unimaginable.

Then I also get a selfish shot of terror for DS1 putting in his miles week after week, if this can happen to one of the greats, it is just so dangerous out there with just a thin piece of lycra and a helmet to keep you safe.

It's a lovely video, it must have taken a while to train Frankie to do that. Cycling can be so dangerous I hope your son stays safe.

RIP Michele Scarponi.

I'm feeling so sad for his family. There was a lovely picture on Twitter of him playing with his twin sons, who are very young. So very sorry for their loss.

This is too sad, what a sweet memorial

Oh that is heartbreaking.

Watching the Astana riders being applauded by the peloton yesterday just broke me, those amazing men, losing someone so close yet back on the bike and off to do the race as planned.

FelicityLemon · 24/04/2017 14:30

Oh me too. The start was very blurry for some reason
