South Downs Way

I'm planning a trip along the South Downs Way with DS (9) in July. Planning on taking five days in all - has anyone done any of this route, or have any general advice on longer trips with DCs?

Drove through the South Downs the other day. I didn't know it was so beautiful.

My husband has ridden it and walked it. Get a map and find the water stops.

Try the cafe at Queen Elizabeth Country Park.
Also the National Trust house Uppark has a nice cafe. It is just off the route. Take care as it has odd opening times.
Otherwise food and drink is difficult to find up on the downs. We usually drop down to one of the village pubs but this can add miles.

Thanks for the tips.
We had a great time! Only one stretch was a bit sparse on the food front, but we managed. It is very hard work, though, and so low-ish mileage each day was the right approach with a child in tow.

Blimey! He'll have one sore bum and aching calfs after that. It's a genuine challenge. Gorgeous scenery - but he'll be in a bit of s hurry for that.
