... how does one go about finding one? A really good one? Really want to whip my 40 year old A level french into shape before a holiday next year. Hope I haven't left it too late!

However I live in the back end of beyond, so I think online is the way to go. Any recommendations please?

Have you tried Preply? Just download the app and you can choose a teacher and a price. Conversation is cheaper than specific syllabus related exam prep. All on line.

Alliance Française and Institut Français both offer online tutoring and group classes. As the teachers have already been hired by the organisation it should be less hit-and-miss than finding one yourself, but the prices are higher than a lot of independent tutors.

TikTok has loads of French tutors giving free lessons op. I listen to them whilst cleaning, cooking or in the car.
