Why do so many posters think it’s necessary to insert ‘ffs’ into their post? Also, why do so any people start their post with ‘So’?
Both these things really irritate me.
You can now criticise me all you like, but the way I feel won’t change! Am I the only one who feels this way?

Yes

AsIfByMagicAShopkeeperAppears · 12/01/2025 13:31

Nothing wrong with a good ffs if it's warranted.

PizzaPunk · 12/01/2025 13:31

I love a good swear.

Out of interest, why have you put this in Site Stuff?

JaneJeffer · 12/01/2025 13:34

There seems to be a recent thing of trying to censor what other people say and complaining about them using "bad language". Fuck that for a game of soldiers.

WhoPutTheBomp · 12/01/2025 13:37

So why is this not posted in Pedants' Corner? FFS.

Joyfulspringflowers · 12/01/2025 13:52

I'm not a great one for swearing but if a poster is putting a valid point across and making a contribution who am I to criticise their language?

I actually find some of the posts with no paragraphs and no punctuation much more of a problem than posts with swear words. BUT I know not everyone has the same level of literacy and education and often posters are writing under duress or high emotion so I know I don't have the right to criticise them on this score.

When it comes down to it we all have the choice not to read posts which offend us or which we don't like.

BarbaraHoward · 12/01/2025 14:59

I imagine people use "FFS" because they're too lazy to type "for fucks sake".

HTH.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 12/01/2025 15:01

The "so" posts irritate me.
Mumsnet has always been sweary as fuck though.

In response to your second comment, But why??

myrtleWilson · 12/01/2025 15:09

There isn’t a board titled “Language” did you mean the cunning linguists board?

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 12/01/2025 15:11

Why?
Because it didn't have tight moderation of that sort of thing compared to competitors like baby centre and netmums AFAIK. And the majority of posters who disliked it voted with their feet. I've been on here over 20 years and in the early days, there was a robust but respectful vibe and swearing was part of that. the private messages were called CAT and people would say "cat me, you cunt".

MrsTerryPratchett · 12/01/2025 15:15

No shit Sherlock, ffs!

I wish you'd said it was a wind-up at the beginning.

JJZ · 12/01/2025 16:48

So...yes, you might just be!

poemsandwine · 12/01/2025 17:32

This should be moved from Site stuff, unless you're lobbying for admins to make a new rule.

Rosesgrowonyou · 12/01/2025 17:34

So, all I can say is for fucks sake.

HebeMumsnet · 13/01/2025 11:00

We've moved this over to Cunning Linguists now (FFS).

JaneJeffer · 13/01/2025 11:02
Grin
Compash · 13/01/2025 11:13

I mean... even the title Cunning Linguists is a cheeky euphemism... 🤷‍♀️

Rosesgrowonyou · 12/01/2025 17:34

So, all I can say is for fucks sake.

Ah, but now we have the problem of where to put the apostrophe in that sentence.

Is it plural 'fucks' or a singular 'fuck'?
