Can anyone recommend any French language programmes on things like Netflix, Prime, YouTube etc? I find they do help to attune my ear to understanding spoken French but I need something reasonably interesting to keep me motivated.

Definitely Lupin!

WanderingAroundintheLark · 14/10/2023 16:26

Call my agent!

FlyingSquid · 14/10/2023 16:26

DD recommends Dix Pour Cent (French version of Call my Agent).

Miriam101 · 14/10/2023 16:28

Dix Pour Cent and Le Bureau- amazingly addictive spy thriller

LoreleiG · 14/10/2023 16:29

Spiral?

MagpiePi · 14/10/2023 16:30

Astrid in Paris on All4?
It is murder mysteries that are solved by an autistic woman helping the police.

I find the way autism is portrayed a bit stereotyped but it is quite entertaining.

FlyingSquid · 14/10/2023 16:30

Ha, lots of us recommending Call my Agent!

efeslight · 14/10/2023 16:36

Watched a great series a few years ago called The returned, les Revenant....I think in French.

WeightoftheWorld · 14/10/2023 16:39

I went off Call My Agent after the first two series, the storyline started to get ever more ridiculous and the characters ever more annoying!

I would second Lupin. I think the newest series has just come out, need to start watching it with DH.

There was one I loved that I think only ran for one series think it was called La Menteuse?

I have definitely watched a bunch of other good ones over the last few years but their names escape me at the moment!!

Definitely Dix Pour Cent and Engrenages. Lupin fine, but not particularly involving., I thought.

TadpolesInPool · 14/10/2023 16:44

HPI on Disney is really good

mambojambodothetango · 14/10/2023 16:47

We enjoyed Women at War and a scifi mystery about a surfing community - can't think of the name. Lots of great films too. Really enjoyed Portrait of a Woman On Fire recently but older classics that still impress are Jean de Florette and Manon des Sources, and the Three Colours trilogy.

I really liked Lupin. Think it helped that I watched it with teen DS.

Marilla1966 · 14/10/2023 16:58

Spiral - one of the best ever series on tv. Also, I love watching L’Agence on Netflix. Reality real estate agent family in Paris. X

SiouxsieSiouxStiletto · 14/10/2023 17:02

I watch L'Agence too Wink

deedeemegadoodoo · 14/10/2023 17:09

Another vote for L’Agence. I love it!

Oriunda · 10/11/2023 18:41

Per the above,

Lupin. Start from the beginning.
Dix Pour Cent (it’s called Call My Agent on Netflix)
Women at War was good
Engrenages / Spiral

plus A Class Act. I’ve just finished it and it was brilliant. Based on true story of a French businessman and politician. Super 70s/80s soundtrack.

It’s also to just put whatever you’re watching on Netflix for eg with French sous-titres,

Oriunda · 10/11/2023 18:43

One more …. Représent. Guy from the banlieues runs for political office.

aridapricot · 28/11/2023 22:28

Second A class act and Marseille.

Cyclistmumgrandma · 28/11/2023 22:30

iPlayer, Spiral.

Fawful · 28/11/2023 23:13

Yes yes to Le Bureau! I think it's on Prime?

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 28/11/2023 23:18

Black box was on BBC 4 very recently, so it should be on I Player. Terrific ( two hours, one off ).

Just posted on another thread about the Parisian Agency (L'Agence) - it's brilliant for modern French idioms and expressions.
