Les Miserables- what age?

The title says it all really, Les Miserables is touring this summer,I want to see it. Do I take my DDs (7 and 8) or leave them at home? They know how to behave in a theatre and enjoyed West Side Story and Fame last year.

I really wouldn't recommend it for children that young.

Is it a bit heavy?

It's incredibly heavy and you need to understand all the words to follow it at all. I got really bored after a couple hours and lost interest and then wondered why one of the main characters was rolling round on the floor. Turned out that was the poignant scene where he drowns himself...

Leave them at home, definitely. It's long, heavy and a million miles away from Fame and West Side Story.

I'd take my 8yr old.
She'd enjoy it even if she wasn't quite sure what was going on.

Where is it touring as if it's in Glasgow I'm booking!

I think that they are a little young. I took my dd at about 10 but she was VERY into Musical Theatre and old for her years. I had to explain the story before the show began - she admits now that she would have struggled to follow the story without prior explanation.

That said, it is a wonderful, wonderful show and I can't wait to see it again.

Enjoy!

I love Les Mis. Would take DD who is a grown-up 10, but not a 7/8 yo. If you really want to take them though, let them listen to the music and get familiar with it, and perhaps explain the story before they go, so they get more out of it.
