Children's newspaper

I'm probably preaching to the converted, but has anyone else heard of First News, the newspaper for kids? I didn't even know it existed until I got an email about the relaunch of their website (I'm a journalist). It's like a really cool and interesting version of John Craven's Newsround (remember that? Or am I the only one old enough?!) It has news, but written in such a way that children grasp it (and not get disturbed by the info), then celeb stuff and science articles too. I'm getting my niece a subscription (she's 12) and soon as my daughter's old enough, she's getting one too.

These days (sorry!) kids are fed so full of irrelevant information I thought this was a real find. The website is www.firstnews.co.uk if anyone's interested.

PS I posted this twice as I wasn't 100% sure where it belonged. Maybe Mumsnet could set up a magazines/newspaper section somewhere? I'd quite like to have a rant about some of the parenting mags I read too!

Oooh, I was trawling through the unanswered messages and found your little gem!

My boys absolutely LOVE First News. This actually makes a great xmas gift (Thanks for reminding me about it because I'm having a nightmare finding pressies for the boys)

Hi siski, with you on this! I'm a librarian and it seems that lots of schools subscribe to it. It's a Good Thing, in my opinion!

It's great isn't it?! I've even been logging on to the site on a daily basis since I discovered it, as they have goodies going for Christmas. I got my niece a bargain Twilight T-shirt from fanpire.co.uk (could be .com, can't remember). She's a huge fan.

Here's the link if you want it. Handy for pressies!
