I am going to the Royal Opera house in a few weeks and have lost touch with the dress code (haven’t been since before kids.)
Can you advise?

When I went regularly, I’d go straight from work, and was usually in jeans and boots, but if you want to dress more formally, you obviously can.

I was there for the ballet in recent weeks. Went straight from work, stalls circle, smart jeans and jumper. There were a few in less smart jeans, a few in sparkly evening wear. And everything in between.

Layers as it gets really hot

Wear what you are comfortable with.

The Royal Opera House (as was; it’s now ‘Royal Ballet and Opera’) is keen to encourage paying customers through its doors and isn’t going to turn anyone away.

You’re welcome to wear your £15k Chanel suit plus accoutrements - countless people do - as long as you’re not too disappointed if the people surrounding you are arriving from a day of sightseeing in rainproof gear, or a day at work in jeans and a jumper.

Obviously if it’s a corporate outing you’ll want to fit in with the culture of the organisation that’s paying for the tickets - but if you’re attending privately I’d say choose whatever currently makes you feel cool and glamorous for the main house, or whatever gives the impression you have not given your outfit a moment’s thought for the Linbury theatre.

Unless you are paying £200+ in stalls or being hosted in hospitality smart casual is fine.

Same as others. I tend to wear a dress as I think it's nice to get dressed up in general but having been to the opera in Paris where people were wearing full on black tie, diamonds, mink stoles etc - it's very much not that vibe

I'm far more interested in what's happening on stage than what my fellow audience members are wearing.

Please, for the love of Mike, please don't wear overpowering perfume though!!
