I wondered if there would be interest in a thread about theatre that isn't London? Any theatre from the big ones to your local.

I have tickets for...

Operation Mincemeat at The Lowry
Road at The Royal Exchange
The Tempest, The Cherry Orchard, Driftwood and Arturo Ui at the RSC.
The Thrill of Love, a play about Ruth Ellis at Wigan Little Theatre.

I saw a play called Punch three days ago at the Nottingham Playhouse, it's there until 4 April 2026 before moving to Leeds and Plymouth. Absolutely worth seeing imho.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 27/03/2026 14:06

Macbeth at Bolton Octagon last night. We both enjoyed it more than we were expecting which is always a bonus.

bruffin · 27/03/2026 14:07

Blood Brothers at The Beam in Hertford

westcott · 27/03/2026 14:08

Recently seen 2:22 and Dear England. Both excellent.

UnimaginableWindBird · 30/03/2026 17:33

I'm off to see The Secret Garden tonight.

Comefromaway · 30/03/2026 17:51

At YTR? Lovely theatre. Ds did panto there

UnimaginableWindBird · 03/04/2026 16:38

Yes. YTR is my local, so I take advantage of the cheap front row seats fairly often. I didn't love The Secret Garden - the performances were excellent, especially from the child playing Mary, but I thought the play itself was underwhelming.

snowymarbles · 03/04/2026 17:48

Am I allowed to count Wimbledon? It’s technically London but it has touring shows not fixed ones….

we saw Waitress last weekend and we have legally blonde booked for October.

we are going to Windsor to see Heathers in August - never been there

i am going to Bristol for Greateat Showman next month.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 03/04/2026 20:26

Top Hat at the Lowry this afternoon. Lighthearted fun, major tap dancing of course. Realised I'd never seen the film, the plot was fun, lots of pithy lines. I thought the best performances were Horace (especially) and Madge Hardwick although the lead were obviously very accomplished.

UnimaginableWindBird · 06/04/2026 09:33

I love the film - It's one of my comfort go-to films on iplayer. I'm not sure if it's still there, but it's worth having a look in case.

My next theatre trip is York Theatre Royal again in a couple of weeks to see the RSC Hamlet.

Ilovelurchers · 06/04/2026 10:04

With work:
Blood Brothers (can't remember where we booked it in the end - Lichfield possibly!)
Midsummer Night's Dream at the Other Place in Stratford.

With family:
12 Angry Men at the Birmingham Rep.

cheapskatemum · 06/04/2026 10:09

I saw Top Hat in Norwich at the end of March & it was my best night out in ages!

quarrybanks · 06/04/2026 10:29

Private Lives at the Royal Exchange was brilliant.

AllaMova · 07/04/2026 12:11

Booked:

Pride at the Sherman Theatre
Owain and Henry at the Wales Millennium Centre

Hoping to book:

Under Milk Wood at the Sherman Theatre too. Hopefully there are still tickets left when I get paid.

Operation Mincemeat at the New Theatre.

I’ve just seen Come from away at the York Opera House. I wasn’t sure what to expect but it was fantastic. Very well written indeed. I would highly recommend.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 14/04/2026 08:03

Come From Away is great, isn't it. A lovely way to memorialise a terrible event.

Comefromaway · 14/04/2026 10:09

As is probably obvious it is my favourite ever show.

"Prayer" and "Me and the Sky" are two of those moments where live theatre does... something that only theatre can do. Chills. Fabulous musical.

Hadn't realised it was on anywhere. Its on my "to watch" list so will look it up

Ifeeltheneedtheneedforcoffee · 14/04/2026 13:24

Macbeth at derby theatre is very good.
Last week this week but worth trying to get tickets (amongst the many gcse students in the audience! All very well behaved)

Comefromaway · 14/04/2026 15:39

The York one is an amateur production. The professional tour ended so it has now been opened up for amateur companies to licence.

captainmouthwash · 14/04/2026 15:49

If you have a chance to see the current tour of To Kill A Mockingbird, go. Saw it the other week and it was excellent.

Yes we saw this last week and thought it very strong. It’s my favourite play and I was very moved esp toward the end.

Also enjoyed Henry V at Stratford tho it may be sold out. Excellent central casting

AllaMova · 14/04/2026 18:02

I’ve caved a booked Under Milk Wood. Looking forward to it
