Another poetry exercise

I thought I needed something cheery and easy to do, so my challenge is this. A poem for children, written in rhyming couplets, with a strong sense of rhythm which tells a story (a la revolting rhymes etc). It can be a familiar story or one from your own imagination.....it can have a 'moral' to it if you like!

Anyone fancy a lighthearted poetry challenge?

A ladybird came to tea,
It was tuesday afternoon about three.
Hello she said as she sat on my knee,
Shall we go for a walk to the sea?

A centipede came and joined us,
As a spider wrapped a web round us.
Its too hot he moaned,
You go on your own,
My legs are aching you see.

A boy named John came next.
His mother was terribly vexed.
He'd lost a shoe
Whilst visiting the zoo,

and all I can think of now is poo! sorry.

Once upon a snooze,
there lived a Winkleglee,
He was a very friendly chap,
and many friends had he.

In Summer for a nice treat,
he'd always have a party,
and all the little winkleglees,
would gather round dressed smartly.

They sat atop marshmallows,
from buttercups they'd sip,
the food was so delicious,
it barely touched their lips!

So If you see a Winkleglee,
remember, say hello,
for when they gather next time,
you may be asked to go?

jangly · 06/01/2005 13:50

Oooh - that's lovely!

juniperdewdrop · 06/01/2005 13:52
