Oops sorry "advice" .
Any thing goes in the West End nowadays. When I first went as a child it felt much dressier.Today some people go in jeans and others dress up. I would imagine that Broadway would be similar - but only guessing.

It's been a while since i've been to NYC to see a show, but New Yorkers are notoriously classy dressers... though most of the audience would be tourists anyway..

I'd go in black. A safe bet for NY.
