'reworked' masterpieces - what do we think ?

Following on from an article in last weeks Sunday Times about Grainne Jordan who reworks famous artists pieces to suit your homes colourscheme...so you could have a Chagall for example in tasteful beige and cream if the real colours were a little too jarring - plus it's a little less expensive than the real artwork. I think this is not a good idea - I'd either buy a decent print if I really wanted one or find an original artwork, not a messed about copy.
this company offers them www.fabulousmasterpieces.co.uk/

I read this ST article as well, think that the disclaimer at the beginning of the article was on the lines of 'this is not naff, honest' !!

I think it is awful. Honestly, just buy a picture that you love, not something that will go with your shag pile and your antimacassars! Very naff imo.

I read an article somewhere once about people who bought parrots to go with their sitting room decor

...er don't artists paint what they see, not stuff to tone with your naff decor...I mean, who is more gifted, you or Chagall?
Hmm!

The arrogance of these people!

naffola

actually this makes me feel quite ill with crossness AND she should be ashamed of herself

very naff idea. art isn't about colour schemes ffs! it's supposed to be a medium for one soul to communicate it's innermost thoughts to another in visual form. it's supposed to be life affirming, not tasteful, beige, goes with the curtains

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 27/03/2008 11:21

It's on the same scale as buying a four pack of prints in frames from Argos and calling it 'art'.
