Royal Opera House Live Streaming

I have treated myself to a Royal Opera House Live Streaming Season pass for 22/23. This includes:

Operas:
Madama Butterfly
Aida
La Boheme
The Barber of Seville
Turandot
The Marriage of Figaro
Il Trovatore

Ballets:
Mayerling
A Diamond Celebration
The Nutcracker
Like Water for Chocolate
Cinderella
The Sleeping Beauty

I wondered whether anyone else was going to see them (either in person or as a live stream) and would like to chat about them on here?

Hi, you seem as though you might know your opera ! I'm looking at booking to take my parents to see either Aida or la Boheme locally, performed by Ukrainian Opera & Ballet Theatre Kyiv. Which would you say is more accessible for a novice? Have only been once before - in Prague to see la traviata - and absolutely loved it, but wary of anything being too heavy going and putting me off!

In my opinion La Boheme is more accessible than Aida. It is often recommended as a good "first opera" - the story is easy to follow and the music is quite familiar.

How much is the pass?

We watch most of the opera available on Arte.

Personally I like Aida better than Boheme but it is a personal choice and they are both great first operas. I think Aida was swung for me by a great production set in a futuristic dictatorship with Aida and family portrayed on a blurry line between freedom fighters and terrorists.

The production can make or break an opera. A friend went in Prague and the director had chosen an octopus porn theme. She just sat with her eyes closed and listened to the music.

That sounds interesting. I hadn't heard of the pass. I'll have to go and look that up now as I'd definitely make use of it.

We saw Swan Lake last and are going to see The Nutcracker livestream at the beginning of December. Interested in the Diamond celebration but haven't booked anything yet.

I'd definitely love to discuss the ballet and will check back!
