I thought they'd put something on it, but apparently they are choosing something else...so what would you put on it - a traditional statue or something like Tracey Emin's meerkats, which is onbe of the options ?
Me, I put an Elizabeth Frink horse

Extend Doris' crack to the plinth?

I loved those Anthony Gormley people standing on the edges of the buildings.

Or how about one of his sculptures of people inside the wire balls? They were cool.

Something by Gormley. He's the real thing.

MaryAnnSingleton · 08/01/2008 14:49

yes, was going to suggest a Gormley - maybe lots of little clay figures - Elisabeth Frink dead so not able to do anything new !

i like the suggestion someone (poss. Gormley) made on the news: a constant stream of people are allocated one hour on the plinth to do whatever they like.

MaryAnnSingleton · 09/01/2008 10:13

they're just discussing this on Vanessa Feltz on BBC radio London - I think it's a pretty good idea - people are carping about the fee Gormley would get for his idea

I love Gormley's work so I think it's a brilliant idea

Went in to the National Gallery at lunchtime today and looked at the six options and cast my vote! TBH, I think most of the ideas (both the current lot and previous installations on the plinth) are just too modern for the setting. WHY can we not just put up another statue in the style of what is already there and use other spaces for the more modern work. I think it would look much better in a stand-alone setting and it just looks odd in Trafalgar Square compared to everything else.

Having said that, I liked Anish Kapoor's sky mirrors best and voted for that!

I vote for a permanent statue of Ken Livingstone.
