I like Faithless, Scissor Sisters, Kings of Leon - what else should I listen to?

all of the above have been bought by dh. I'm crap at buying music. wouldn't know a lily watserface or amy whitehouse song from the Sex Pistols. what should i get? grew up liking punk, then New Ordery type things, listened to Radio Head at college, liked some dance stuff (eg Prodigy) but not enough to distinguish differnt types of dance. now like the above. but really need to invigorate our really rather poor music collection. any ideas?

I love Kings of Leon and I think also comparable on the rock side of things are are Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Pixies. Definitely the Killers too.

hatwoman · 06/01/2008 22:48

omg just looked for editors on amazon and there's a stack of albums. would you recommend one on them?

hello snowleopard. never did work out who you are...did you know that Radiohead played at a JCR bop at college once? just before I got there but dh is always telling people. they were called On a Friday.

Hatwoman, yes amazingly I did know that! (but of course I missed it too...) When I arrived at Pembroke i ended up at the freshers' bop and I did not have a clue what a bop was, such a nerd was I. However that night I did discover the Stone Roses.

hatwoman · 06/01/2008 23:09

ah Stone Roses. I was trying to remember their name when writing my op. never owned one of their albums, probably couldn't name any of their songs but pretty much the soundtrack of those years...

Hatwoman - dont know what Amazon is bringing up for you but Editors only have 2 albums.

Their debut (back room)is outstanding, second album also great also but IMO you should go for the first one first!

snowleopard · 06/01/2008 23:13

And I also remember watching in amazement as a certain glamorous redhead enraptured all the boys with her dancing, miniskirt and hot looks (not naming her in case it was you!) (she was famous for her picky taste in men; she went out with a friend of mine for a year or two but is not with him now)

hatwoman · 06/01/2008 23:16

they had
An End has a Start
Back Room
All SParks
Blood
Racing Rats
Smoking outside the Hospital Doors

but just noticed teh prices - ranging from 50p - I think these are singles. in fact one of them calls itself an EP. didn;t realise such a thing existed these days. gawd i'm old...

JeremyVile · 06/01/2008 23:19

Will put my profile back up for you to look at if youlike, most I like is listed there.
Some are a bit odd ie: 80's and I have a thing for garage too, but mostly I like metal etc.

Hmm, some good suggestions already, ahve you tried the wombats? snow patrol? babyshambles/libertines, raconteurs, Queens of the stone age, wolfmother.
Have you got last.fm?? if you go there, wheneever you play music on your pc it lists it then suggests similar stuff.

Good taste by the way.

Can't get my page to work, so here are a few:

Placebo, Marilyn Manson, JOHN 5, Jimmy Eat World, Keane, Travis, Otis Redding, The Smiths, The Jam, Sex Pistols, Anything 80's, Scissor Sisters, Kate Bush, 40's War Time stuff, NIN, Dead Kennedys, Garbage, My Dying Bride, Magic Numbers, Deftones, Queens Of The Stoneage, Kings Of Leon, My Chemical Romance....

madamez · 06/01/2008 23:31

Try some WHite Stripes (go for Elephant first, then if you like that try White Blood Cells), a little Franz Ferdinand, some Bloc Party - a good thing to do is buy compilations cheaply, either from a local secondhand music store if you have one or Ebay - anything that's NME's sounds of the Summer or New Indie Music might be worth a listen, and then if you liek a particular track you can hunt down more by that artist..

Your page is working LOTF, but yeah she's right get some MCR! 30 seconds to mars are good too, I also personally like lost prophets, try them.

Even cheaper is to get on a P2P programme, like soulseek or limewire. It's free!
