St Trtinian's - will it cause embarrassment?

I'm planning to take a group of 11 year old girls to see this. Is it harmless stuff or will it cause me embarrassment due to swearing, smut, etc?

No one seen it?

It's a 12 certificate Pinetreedog.

pinetreedog · 01/01/2008 19:17

yes, but I think 12A means you can go if you;re younger with adult consent. Mums are all ok so far.

Harry Potter was a 12 and we were ok with that. And these girls arw 11, coming up 12

Just wondered how good or bad it would be

we went on xmas eve with my 11 year old DD and 9 year old DS and 46 year old DH.. we all really enjoyed it.. don't remember any smut..

pinetreedog · 01/01/2008 19:22

oh good, thank you (dubious trailer shot of school girl with visible suspenders, looking abouyt 25 made me alittle unsure)

Well part of the story is the sixth formers running a phone sex line from their dormitory. I think it's a shame they put that in a children's film.

MumRum · 01/01/2008 19:27

I think a lot of it goes over the kids head to be honest.. the kids loved the dog best..

what sort of drugs?

OP posts:
merryberry · 01/01/2008 19:34

all sorts, continuous drug refs. coke, skunk, shrooms. uppers, downers shown being offered and taken. all in a yee-har, normalising we luv 'em kind of way. i wouldn't take them myself, unless prepared their parents ok with this level of positive/fond drug references.

merryberry · 01/01/2008 19:36

erm, i wouldn't take the kids i meant

or the drugs while 31 weeks pregnant...

btw the whole sexiness thing was relatively tame given what else you see nowadays.

pinetreedog · 01/01/2008 20:26

really?? that's a lot of drugs references.

I've just spoken to two parents. They were ok about it. But I didn't have drugs knowledge. Hmm. Maybe I'm best being in ignorance

OP posts:
pinetreedog · 02/01/2008 21:50

I would agree, merry. Surprisingly free and easy reference to a wide range of drugs

The Guardian said:

"This is a monumentally naff film, shaming and depressing in a way that British feature-film comedies have persisted in being, intermittently, all our lives. Cheesy, dated, humourless and crass"

morningpaper · 02/01/2008 21:56

did you take them then Pinetree?

yes, we went this evening. It wasn't the worst. It wasn't Chicken Little or anything. Just about kept me entertained. The drugs and alcohol references were a bit much.

Last year DD wanted to dress up as a StTrinians, I said no as I didn't think it was appropraite. Try explaining to an 8yr old that dressing up as a sexy school girl is not a good idea, then this blasted film comes out .

TheStepfordChav · 02/01/2008 22:21

There are stockings in it, but nothing they wouldn't see on TV in a music video - Kylie is worse. I am confident that the sex stuff went over my dd's head (she's 14) - eg stuff about 'getting a head'. There were also gags eg from Rupert Everett in drag saying 'I feel like a Queen'.

I enjoyed it, found some of it clever & very funny. Better than a lot of recent (American) films. Agree about the drugs though - not necessary, but showing only packets of red & blue pills which make people make fools of themselves (as far as I can remember). And the headmistress with a spliff, but DD didn't know that. I think they will see that the drug stuff is as silly as eg brewing your own vodka at school.
