Theatre recommendations for 11 year old boy

Any suggestions please for a good show I could take my 11 year old DS to see in London please?

I’m taking DD (6) to see Frozen soon and so would like to organise a similar trip for just me & DS.

Much as I’d like to see lion king, we’re planning a whole family visit to see that so other suggestions much appreciated. He likes Harry Potter but not sure if cursed child would be a bit heavy going?

For the cursed child I think you really need to know the 4th book. It is very good but long.
School of rock is good (I think it's still in the west end?)

Matilda is opening up again in September.

The Play that goes Wrong would be excellent for him.

A comedy for all ages !

School of rock closed in the west end.

The play that goes wrong is brilliant for that age

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat?

School of Rock closed a couple of years ago. It’s about to go on tour. Play that Goes Wrong is a good choice.

Thanks @Needcoffeecoffeecoffee I suspected as much about cursed child. We live up north too so would like to do it on a day trip & for this one I think we’d need to stay with the 2 shows.

@Pinkflipflop85 DS wouldn’t be so bothered on Matilda - DD on the other hand would LOVE it, one of her favourite films.

@DrRamsesEmerson - I went to see it before the pandemic so hadn’t thought about that but DS hasn’t seen it so could definitely be one he’d enjoy. I did also wonder about prince of Egypt but not really heard anything about whether it’s any good.

For those suggesting the play that goes wrong - I’ll look that one up thanks. And will also look up the school of rock on tour, maybe it’ll come somewhere near us.

Thanks all!

My DS is the same age and loved Joseph recently.

Comefromaway · 29/08/2021 14:37

Dd saw Prince of Egypt on a standby deal last week. She said it’s not the best musical in the world music wise but the staging and choreography is stunning.

Comefromaway · 29/08/2021 14:38

Roughly when are you thinking of going (as some shows will be closing soon but others opening).

Caniescapethishellhole · 31/08/2021 20:14

@Comefromaway not sure when yet. Could feasibly be anytime between now & next spring.
I checked out School of rock & it’s actually on near me very soon so I might take him to that. It’s not quite the same as a London trip but I think he will enjoy it all the same.
