I am doing a mini nativity for the childminded children at the Christmas Party

I am a very bad piano player

I need a version of 'Away in the Manger' that I can play

I can manage 1 sharp or flat, and can play single notes with my left hand - but can usually manage 2 at a time with my right

Has any one got/or can find me a version I have any chance of playing

My version has 3 sharps and chords (3 or 4 notes) for the left hand

TIA

I may be able to help you - just give me a little while (perhaps until tomorrow lunchtime(ish) - could be earlier)....as I think I have an "easy" book of carols around.

Katymac · 12/11/2007 20:46

That's really kind of you to look

I'm really going to need to practice - I haven't played for 27 years

It's either in one of the two (enormous) piles of music on the floor behind me.......which is supposed to be being listed on ebay (but it's been sat there since before DS3 was born) or on one of the 3 shelves that still has music on it........I MUST go and tidy up downstairs now before DH gets in but I'll try and look tonight.

Try this looks easy!

Milliways · 12/11/2007 20:53

Katymac · 12/11/2007 20:54

I'll try that in the morning

There are a lot of notes in it ()

Eleanor Frankilin Wright (I think) has some really easy Carol Books - I'll try and find it

MegaLegs · 12/11/2007 20:58

Elenor Franklin Pike My boys play these and even I can manage a couple.

MegaLegs · 12/11/2007 20:58

Oh and this one has Away in a Manger in it.

SlightlyMadStuffing · 12/11/2007 20:59

this one is classified beginner...warning takes an age to load as it is a image file...

Katymac · 12/11/2007 21:05

I think I can play that one

Thanks everyone - I'll let you know how I go on with it

It does seem to be about my level

Thanks for the offer QoQ - but I think this is fine

Thanks SMS - it look perfect

Good luck

TheQueenOfQuotes · 12/11/2007 21:16

Megalegs - that's the one I've got (somewhere LOL)......that last one (SMS's) one is very low.....and I know it's "only" the children sing it but I think they'll find it difficult to get down that far....

Katymac · 12/11/2007 21:18

Most of them are under 3 - it'll end up with us adults singing it & low could be quite good

I'll have a play around & see

OP posts:
TheQueenOfQuotes · 12/11/2007 21:22

oooo - if it's just adults singing it could be dodgy too - I'd try and find one in F major (starting on middle C and middle C lowest note) if I was you - nice "middle ground" notes - unless you've got a bunch of Alto and Bass voiced parents LOL.

Katymac · 12/11/2007 21:24

I can definitely play that

I might manage something a little more difficult (with practice) it is about where I sing too (which isn't a bad thing - although I am completely unable to carry a tune - not even in a bucket - so it might be better if I shut up)

I can't believe this
"I'll just write out an arrangement for DD to play" DD's piano teacher said "that way it will be at her level"

I am so envious of people who are competent like this

I'm playing for ds's nursery nativity again this year - 3rd year. 1st year did piano - disaster as no rehearsal with children, music all in wrong keys and didn't have half the music required - playing the piano in public terrifies me! So last year I got them organised and said that if they wanted me I would come along and play my violin to rehearse with the children several times before the day - then bring dh along on the day to play double bass as well. Hugely more successful. However, we had to write our own music in the keys that the children were using. The result of that is that I have a version of AIAM for just two lines which is at a level proven to be OK for nursery age children (surprisingly low). If you think that this might be any help, I could dig it out, scan it in and send it to you (wld need your email address...) Let me know.

Katymac · 13/11/2007 19:16

That's really kind of you Mistlethrush

But DD's piano teacher just wrote it out for us

I have played it a few times & it works really well

& it only uses one note at the time and only 1 flat - I can really play it

TheQueenOfQuotes · 13/11/2007 21:04

Katymac · 13/11/2007 21:06
